Robert (award)
The Robert ( Danish Robert Prisen , German: "Robert Prize") is a Danish film and television award . Originally founded in 1984 as a pure film prize (in addition to the Bodil Awards , which has existed since 1948 ), performance in the field of television has also been honored since 2013. The award is given every year, usually at the beginning of February, by the Danish Film Academy ( FilmAkademiet ) in Copenhagen at the so-called Robert Festival .
The award was created based on the guidelines of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which awards the Oscar . As an alternative to Bodil, which only awards prizes in film and actor categories, Robert should also recognize the work of filmmakers and technicians such as screenwriters, cameramen and production designers. In the early years, critics doubted whether so many categories were necessary for the annual Danish film productions.
As with the Academy Awards, the nominees and winners of the individual categories are determined in a secret ballot by the members of the Film Academy, which is made up of representatives from the Danish film and television industry. The winners will receive an abstract cast iron figure created by the Danish sculptor Robert Jacobsen . Jacobsen also acted as the namesake of the award.
