Bo Christensen

Bo Højgaard Christensen (born August 24, 1937 in Frederiksberg , Denmark , † April 11, 2020 ) was a Danish film producer who won an Oscar in 1988 for his film Babettes Fest .

Career

Christensen began working in film as a student in 1956 and was employed as an assistant at Nordisk Film from 1957 . He made his debut as an assistant director in the Danish film Cyclists in 1958 . From 1959 he worked as a production assistant and from 1961 production manager for commercials at Nordisk Film . He then worked on various Danish films in various positions, mostly in production management and as a film producer. He also appeared in six films as an actor in mostly small supporting roles. As a film producer or co-producer, he has worked in over 60 films in the course of his career.

Christensen's greatest success as a film producer was the Danish film Babettes Fest ( Babettes gæstebud ) in 1987 , which won an Oscar in 1988 in the category “Best Foreign Language Film” . This film also received the British Academy Film Award for Best Non-English Language Film in 1988 at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts ( BAFTA , literally British Academy of Film and Television Arts ) .

He was also the producer of the successful Danish television series Matador (1978-1982), which was broadcast in Germany under the title The People of Korsbaek from December 1981 on ARD . Christensen was also the film producer and production manager of the Danish film series about the Olsen Gang from 1969 to 1981 in films 1 to 13.He also had a small side appearance as an actor in the 1974 Olsen Gang film The (probably) last prank of the Olsen gang, in the role of a German diplomat who receives the Bedford diamonds at the airport. He played the same role again in the Norwegian remake of this Danish film under the title: Olsenbandens siste bedrifter from the film series on the Norwegian Olsenbande .

Christensen later became director of Nordisk Film and from 1991 head of Det Danske Filminstitut (Danish Film Institute). From 1993 worked as General Director of the European Script Fund in London . In 1995 he became director of TeleDanmark , which later became TDC A / S in the telecommunications and cable company TeleDanmark Kabel TV . From 2004 to 2006 he worked as a consultant at Nordisk Film in preparation for the company's 100th anniversary celebrations. In recent years he has retired from professional life and the film industry.
