Poul David Reichhardt , also Poul Reichardt (born February 2, 1913 in Ganløse , Egedal municipality , Hovedstaden region , Sjælland ; † October 31, 1985 in Skagen ) was a Danish actor and opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Reichhardt grew up as the only child with his mother and stepfather, a teacher in the Kødbyen district of Vesterbro in Copenhagen and later in Nørrebro . He made his debut in 1931 in the play Styrmand Karlsens flammer at the Nørrebro Theater in Copenhagen . He worked at the Det Kongelige Teater (Royal Theater) in Copenhagen from 1950 and was mainly known there for his appearances in the role of Biff Loman in the play Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller and as Ralph Rackstraw in HMS Pinafore by Arthur Sullivan . He had other important roles as Papageno in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Meyer in Henri Nathansen's piece Indenfor Murene (Inside the Walls) . Reichhardt was also president of the “Association of Theater Actors and Opera Singers ” for several years for Foreningen af ​​Skuespil- og Operapersonale at the Det Kongelige Teater. He was also very active in the Danish Actors' Association ( Dansk Skuespillerforbund ).

Furthermore, he played as a film actor in many Danish film and television productions at an early stage, until the end of his acting career. Among other things, he played in the Danish television series Oh, these tenants ( Huset på Christianshavn ) from 1970 to 1977 and in the film Ballade på Christianshavn the furniture carrier Olsen .

In his first marriage, Reichhardt was married to the Swedish actress Margareta Fahlén since 1955 . The marriage was divorced and in 1962 he married the actress Charlotte Ernst (1939–1973), with whom he was married until her death, in 1962 . They had four children together, of whom the son Peter Reichhardt also became an actor.

Poul Reichhardt fell ill with a blood clot in 1981, as a result of which he had to live with a disability and had to give up acting. Most recently he lived in Skagen until his death in 1985 . Reichhardt was buried in Ordrup Cemetery ( Ordrup Kirkegård ) in Copenhagen.
