Poul Bundgaard (1991)

Poul Arne Bundgaard (born October 27, 1922 in Copenhagen - Hellerup , † June 3, 1998 in Gentofte ) was a Danish actor and operetta singer ( tenor ).

Life

Poul Bundgaard had his first "appearance" in 1923 at the age of four months in one of the numerous Pat and Patachon films , in which he was pushed through the picture in a pram. He initially worked as a practical aid and went into the resistance against the German occupiers during the Second World War .

In 1945 Bundgaard appeared for the first time in a revue . He made his theater debut in 1946 as a postman in Die Fledermaus . Until 1955 he appeared in numerous other operettas . He played his first leading role in Uncle Tom's hut . In the 1950s he appeared on various stages in Denmark and played the title roles in Orpheus in the Underworld and Farinelli in plays , revues and operettas . In 1958 he made a guest appearance at the New Theater in Oslo , after having always turned down offers from abroad ( USA , France , Germany or Egypt ). From 1958 to 1972 he was engaged at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen , initially only as an opera singer, from 1960 also as a stage actor, where he distinguished himself as a Shakespeare actor. From 1971 to 1975 he appeared in the legendary Cirkusrevy , which Preben Kaas directed. As a singer, Poul Bundgaard released around 200 records . He was also active as a writer and published two autobiographies .

Bundgaard has been active in film since the mid-1940s. He quickly became known and popular in over 100 film and television appearances, including porn and soft porn films. The role of Kjeld Jensen in the Olsen Gang films became his most important role, which made him not only known but also popular beyond the borders of Denmark. But Bundgaard was more than just “Kjeld”. In 1966 and 1978 he won the Bodil , the “Danish Oscar”, for best supporting actor for Slå først, Frede! and Hærværk . He played with most of the major Danish actors: Ole Ernst , Holger Juul Hansen , Ghita Nørby , Kirsten Rolffes , Axel Strøbye , Bjørn Watt-Boolsen and of course Ove Sprogøe , Morten Grunwald and Kirsten Walther .

Bundgaard was married twice. His first marriage to Bente Kjær, with whom he had children Steen and Helle, was divorced. In 1962 he married the ballerina Kirsten Pedersen, whom he had met at the Royal Theater. Kirsten was the principal dancer of the Royal Ballet until 1971. Both have a son, Peter. In 1981 Bundgaard was made a Danebrog Knight . Bundgaard was a member of the Freemasons Association .

Bundgaard died of kidney failure after a long illness while shooting the last film of the Olsen Gang , which was made in 1998 as a straggler of the thirteen films made from 1968 to 1981 . Bundgaard died in his Olsen Gang costume in Gentofte Hospital. The script had to be rewritten for the last third of the film and the actor had to be replaced by double Tommy Kenter . Poul Bundgaard is buried in the Mariebjerg cemetery in Copenhagen.
