Bille August

Bille August (born November 9, 1948 in Brede , Syddanmark ) is a Danish film director .

Life

After training as a photographer in Stockholm, Bille August graduated from Danske Filmskole in Copenhagen in 1976 . He has received several awards for his work. His film Pelle, the Conqueror won an Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 1989 . He had previously received the Palme d' Or for this film at the Cannes International Film Festival in 1988 .

August was able to repeat the success in Cannes in 1988 at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival with The Best Intentions , for which Ingmar Bergman wrote the screenplay. At the 1997 Berlinale his film Miss Smilla's Sensation for Snow was shown in the competition.

From 1991 to 1997 he was married in third marriage to the actress Pernilla August , who also appeared in some of his films. The actress Alba August is one of the two daughters from this marriage .
