Jörn Johan Donner (born February 5, 1933 in Helsinki ; died January 30, 2020 there ) was a Finnish-Swedish writer , film director , actor , film producer and politician .

Life

Jörn Johan Donner was a descendant of the well-known Donner family, which has produced many famous personalities in Finland. He was the son of the linguist Kai Donner , who died when Jörn Donner was barely two years old.

He was a member of various political parties, a member of the Finnish Parliament and the European Parliament .

Donner worked in Sweden for a long time and was, among other things, director of the Swedish Film Institute . Jörn Donner became known as the producer of Ingmar Bergman's masterpiece Fanny and Alexander , which won four Academy Awards in 1984 , including Best Foreign Language Film. In 1979 Donner was chairman of the Berlinale jury.

The bibliography of the texts written by Donner amounts to more than 50 works. He died in Helsinki in January 2020, a week before his 87th birthday.
