Pernilla August
Pernilla August (* 13. February 1958 in Stockholm as Mia Pernilla Hertzman-Ericson ) is a Swedish actress and film director .
Live and act
Pernilla August made her debut as an actress in 1975 in the film Giliap , which was directed by Roy Andersson . She trained as an actress at the theater school in Stockholm. In 1982 she took on a small role in the film Fanny and Alexander directed by Ingmar Bergman . She made another film with Bergman, including a clown .
Internationally she became known to a large audience through the role of Shmi Skywalker , mother of Anakin Skywalker , in the 1999 science fiction film Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace . For her acting performance, Pernilla August was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2000 . She took on the role of Shmi Skywalker again in the 2002 second episode of the Star Wars saga.
With director Bille August , her second husband, she made several film and television productions, including the best intentions for which they at the 1992 Film Festival in Cannes as Best Actress Award.
In 2005 Pernilla August made her debut as a director and directed the short film Blindgångare , internationally known under the English title Time-Bomb . In 2010 she made her feature film debut with the drama Bessere Zeiten ( Svinalängorna ), which is based on the novel of the same name by the Swedish Finn Susanna Alakoski . Set in Sweden in the 1970s, the story tells of a young woman (played by Noomi Rapace ) who remembers her childhood of abuse and alcoholism . Svinalangorna was awarded prizes at the Venice Film Festival , the Hamburg Film Festival and the Nordic Film Days Lübeck , among others , and in August 2011 she won the Swedish Guldbagge film award as best director. On October 17, 2011, the work was awarded the Nordic Council Film Prize. In 2015 August was seen in the Swedish film Det vita folket (“The White People”). Her film Den allvarsamma leken based on the novel of the same name by Hjalmar Söderberg ( Eng . A serious game ) from 2016 was shown at the 66th Berlinale as part of the Berlinale Special Gala.
Pernilla August was married twice. From the first marriage with the screenwriter Klas Östergren (1982 to 1989) there was a child. The second marriage to director Bille August lasted from 1991 to 1997 and, like her first, divorced. The two daughters from this marriage are the actresses Alba August and Asta August.
