Jaana Susanna Emilia Alakoski Söderlund (born May 16, 1962 in Vaasa , Finland ) is a Swedish- Finnish social worker, journalist and writer who lives in Sweden and writes in the Swedish language.

Life

Susanna Alakoski's parents moved to Sweden as migrant workers in 1965 . She grew up in Ystad in southern Sweden .

According to her own statements, Susanna Alakoski wrote her debut novel Svinalängorna for 13 years before it was published in 2006. Svinalangorna (for example: pig houses, pig burrows) was awarded the most important Swedish literary prize, the August Prize , in the year of publication . The novel has now been sold more than 500,000 times in Sweden and featured on the reading lists of Swedish schools and universities as a recommendation in sociology and psychology .

The novel was made into a film by Pernilla August in 2010 . The film Bessere Zeiten and the German translation of the book of the same name were released in Germany in 2011.

Alakoski lives in Stockholm , writes for the newspapers "Dagens Arbete" and Aftonbladet and is active in gender politics.

She is married to the writer Mats Söderlund .
