Ballerina ( Italian ballerina ; in masculine form ballerino , translated: dancer of a dance ensemble or a ballet .) In practice, the term is mainly used in the female form. The leading solo dancer in a ballet ensemble or, more generally, the dancer of a leading role in a ballet performance is called a prima ballerina . The best of their time is called Prima Ballerina Assoluta .

Well-known ballerinas can be found in the list of important dancers .
