action

It's early December at the end of the 1950s and Christmas is just around the corner. Egon Olsen lives in an orphanage (children's home) and happens to observe the machinations of the home management. A large amount of money from Egon's children's home in Copenhagen has been embezzled by Mr Hallandsen (director of the children's home) and his cronies. Egon wants to prove this and get the money back and save Christmas for the home. In his new school he met his classmates Kjeld and Benny, with whom he quickly became friends. Together with Dynamit-Harry they found the Olsen Gang (The Olsen Gang). Of course, Egon has a plan to get the money stolen by Hallandsen back from his Franz Jäger Berlin safe , as well as to outsmart his opponents. But Hallandsen also has plans, he needs a lot of money to be able to leave the country for the Bahamas forever. He plans to create additional confusion by using the wrong Santa Clauses. Wherever a Santa Claus shows up, he takes the gifts with him instead of giving them to the children. The big question for the Olsen Gang is who has the better plan. Will there be a Christmas for the children of the home and for the Olsen Gang this year? For Kjeld, the main thing is that he can prove that he loves Yvonne. In addition, Kjeld's father Børge is kidnapped by Hallandsen's cronies. In the implementation of Egon's plans, the Olsen gang also gets in the way of an opposing gang with Bøffen (the stupid pig ), Knud and Valle. Bøffen acts as Hallandsen's handyman and also courts Yvonne. After a few mishaps, Detective Inspector Jensen and his assistant Holm are on the heels of the Olsen gang instead of following Hallandsen's machinations. In the end, however, the Olsen gang can thwart Hallandsen's plans, hand him and his gang over to the police and save the money for the children's home. Christmas is saved for all children and Kjeld can hope for Yvonne's love again.

Television programs and publications

The Danish television series was created as a prequel to the successful Olsen Gang film series, except that this series tells the story of the Olsen Gang in their childhood days. The topic is the very first coup of habitual criminals in childhood. The focus is on Denmark's most famous and popular habitual criminal Egon Olsen, Benny and Kjeld, as well as how they met in their childhood to found the legendary Olsen gang.

The 24 episodes (25 minutes each) of the first season were shown from December 1 to December 24, 1999 (like the advent calendar with 24 sections) for the first time on the Danish television program TV 2 (Denmark) , as a Christmas series. In Scandinavia, the 24-part daily Christmas series (Voksen-julekalender) have an unbroken tradition. In this Olsen Gang Junior series, too, Christmas is a central theme. The second season with 7 additional episodes was shown at Easter 2000 (April 19 - April 24, 2000). The subsequent Danish film Olsen Gang Junior (2001) is another direct continuation of the series.

The first 24 episodes of the television series Olsen-bandens første kup were released by TV2 / Nordisk Film on VHS and now on DVD in the form of 2 seasons. The remaining 7 episodes have not been repeated or released on DVD since they were first broadcast (Easter 2000). Two music CDs and a computer game (2000) were released from the series.

Worth mentioning

  • The actors Jesper Langberg (Mortensen, film 4) and Peter Steen (Mortensen in films one and two and lieutenant in film three) as well as Kurt Ravn (in film 12 as a truck driver) from the actual Olsen gang films reappear in the series.
  • The Olsen Gang films and the television series, including the following film, Olsen Gang Junior, have a rather loosely related relationship. Egon, Benny and Kjeld are about the same age here. In the Olsen Gang films, however, Egon is much older than Benny and Kjeld. The gang's childhood must also have happened much earlier than 1958, so Kjeld and Yvonne got married in 1956 according to the “official” Olsen gang chronology; Egon was born in either 1925 (according to film two) or 1927, according to conflicting reports. Even if one assumed that the gang actually spent their childhood together, it must have been in the years just before the Second World War.

Other films and sequels

As a new idea, the Jönssonligan (Jönsson gang) , which is a remake of the Danish Olsen gang , was shot in Sweden in the mid-1990s with children who had characters similar to the Swedish adult characters. In contrast to the actual Jönssonligan films, the first two junior films have also been dubbed in German so far. Later, Denmark and Norway followed this example and created their own “youth versions” of the Olsen Gang . The Danish television series Olsen-bandens første kup was first re-filmed as Olsenbandens første kupp ("The Olsen Gang Junior and their First Coup") as a 24-part Christmas series in Norway for TV2 . The subsequent Danish sequel Olsenbande Junior was also adapted in Norway, slightly changed. While no further junior films were produced in Denmark after that, Norway produced its own Olsenbande Junior film series without corresponding Danish originals (2003-2010), parts of which are among the most successful productions in Norwegian film history:

Some Norwegian Olsen Gang Junior - films were also on the Nordic Film Days in Lübeck listed several times in public.
