Egon Olsen now has to be arrested as the alleged cause of the mishap.

After serving his sentence, Egon is picked up by Benny and Kjell from the Lykkebo children's home in the usual manner . But Egon already has a new plan. By overhearing a conversation between the manager of the old people's home Bjarne from Fredrikssted and his own children's home manager Arne , he learned that he has a biological grandfather. A good opportunity to get to Frederikstad quickly comes up unexpectedly. The Olsen Gang school class wants to plan a multi-day school excursion . The class teacher would prefer to go to Eidsvoll with the class . Egon manages to organize a majority in the class for a trip to Fredrikstad. The school class then finally drives together with a school bus to a school camp in Fredrikstad. Detective Inspector Hermansen and his police assistant, Holm, also accompany the school excursion to Fredrikstad. A boat tour of the class that sabotaged Olsenbande the paddle boat by Hermansen and Holm , this sinks into the lake in the middle. She also manages to cause general confusion on the paddle boat tour, whereupon several boats of the class capsize. Egon , Benny and Kjell are able to set themselves apart from the class and want to visit Egon's grandfather in the nursing home. Egon manages to get into the old people's home with a few tricks and can finally visit his grandfather. Grandfather Eugon Olsen now lets his grandson Egon in on the secret of his treasure. Egon is very impressed and with the help of his friends, Benny Kjell and Dynamit-Harry, he wants to help his grandfather in the treasure hunt . Egon's director of the children's home, Arne , also followed Egon to Fredrikstad. Together with Eugen's retirement home manager Bjarne , he wants to elicit the secret of the treasure from grandfather Olsen . Egon is discovered by the two of them during his visit to a nursing home. Nevertheless, Egon manages to escape from the old people's home together with his grandfather before their pursuers can coax the secret from him. They flee by boat into the seascapes and forests of Akershus , where Benny and Kjell join them again.

Eugen now reveals his grandson, his family secret to a legendary Norwegian treasure. The treasure is lost tax money that a certain Ole Høiland stole from the Bank of Norway in 1835 in a bank robbery . All the money that had disappeared was never found back then. He also learns that the famous Norwegian "master thief" Ole Høiland , to a certain extent, is an ancestor of the Olsen family . Benny and Kjell go back to their school class for the time being so as not to arouse suspicion, while Egon and grandfather Eugen Olsen go on a treasure hunt. But to get to the treasure, you have to complete several exciting adventures and master a kind of scavenger hunt. The first clue to the treasure map is in the castle of Akershus Fortress. Egon sneaks into Akershus Fortress to steal a document and glasses from the Norwegian poet Henrik Arnold Wergeland . With the help of Wergeland's glasses, you can identify another clue on the document. Egon and his grandfather can now find a hidden box with the treasure map in a stone wall in the basement of the fortress . But after they have found the treasure map, they are overwhelmed by Arne and Bjarne , who followed them secretly, and they are locked in a dungeon in the fortress. The two home managers set out into the Norwegian forests with the treasure map to find the supposed treasure. Even Eugene and Egon set out on the track after they managed to escape from their prison.

In the meantime, Egon Olsen is missing from his class. Hermansen und Holm puts together a search party with class teacher Miss Pirkeldal to find Egon Olsen. The following are also selected: Hermansen's son Herman and the Biffen gang , the opponents of the Olsen gang . Benny , Kjell and Dynamit-Harry successfully break away again in order to meet Egon independently. Meanwhile, a wild chase for the treasure takes place in the Norwegian forests and swamps of Akershus. Egon and Eugen can trick the dark guys Bjarne and Arne several times and find the treasure first, or can ultimately steal it again after a loss. Furthermore, the Olsen gang arrests Bjarne and Arne, as well as making them confess their crimes to the police. The two home managers can now be arrested by Hermansen and Holm . Egon leaves the treasure to his grandfather Eugen Olsen so that he can afford a well-deserved retirement. Grandfather Olsen and his partner Solvig can finally get away with a tethered balloon and with the help of the Olsen gang. Egon Olsen's class is now all back in the coach on the return journey from their adventure school excursion. Hermansen and Holm , who wanted to confiscate the missing treasure for the Norwegian state, are too late. Unfortunately , the police can only watch the balloon take off from the school bus , but Egon can say goodbye to his grandfather, who gives him his bowler hat to say goodbye .
