Vanessa Anneliese Petruo-Zink (born October 23, 1979 in West Berlin ) is a German psychologist and former singer , songwriter , actress and voice actress . She gained fame between 2000 and 2003 as a member of the pop group No Angels .

biography

Vanessa Petruo was born in 1979 to the actor and voice actor Thomas Petruo, who died in 2018, and his Spanish - Peruvian wife Mercedes. Vanessa is the granddaughter of radio and voice actor Heinz Petruo and has a brother and a sister. From 1988 to 1992 Petruo attended the St. Paul Catholic School in Berlin-Moabit , followed by the Catholic Liebfrauen-Gymnasium in Berlin-Westend . She is a vegetarian and was featured at events as well as on posters for the animal welfare organization PETA .

No Angels

In September 2000 Petruo was one of five women in the context of the first season of II RTL broadcast Casting competition Popstars were selected as members of the girl group No Angels. After separating in 2003, she did not return to the band's comeback. The song Something About Us , which was released as a single and later won an echo , was written by Petruo.

Solo career

In April 2004 Vanessa Petruo published her first solo single Dramaqueen under the pseudonym "Vany" , which reached number 11 in the German charts.

At the same time she worked as a voice actress and actress. For example, she lent her voice to one of the main characters in the animated film Back to Gaya . She also stood alongside Tanja Wenzel for four episodes of the RTL series Wilde Engel in front of the camera. At the end of 2004, Petruo separated from their record company Cheyenne Records, which meant that the planned single track Pop That Melody , a collaboration with Mousse T. , was not released.

In November 2005, Petruo released Hot Blooded Woman, their second solo single via Polydor / Universal . The single was in the top 100 of the German single charts for three weeks, but it was not a major success. On November 25, 2005, Petruo's first solo album Mama Lilla Would followed , on which all songs, except for a cover of the classic Miss Celie's Blues , are self-composed. At the same time, Petruo traveled through Germany as part of her first own club tour. The album only sold moderately and failed to enter the Top 100 of the German album charts.

In November 2006, Petruo took on a supporting role in the comedy Where's Fred? .

Since the end of December 2006, Petruo has continuously made new songs available on her MySpace page. A second solo album was announced there several times, but was postponed again. At the beginning of 2006 the song Beggin ' - originally by Frankie Valli - should be released as a single. However, the band Madcon brought the song back into the charts at the same time, whereupon Petruo withdrew the release of their single. Your version was then offered as a free download.

In 2008 she was the face of the Marco Tozzi brand's “Fashion & Music” collection for shoes and handbags. For this purpose, Petruo shot a commercial in which her song Goodbye was heard. This song contains samples from the song "The Night" by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons.

Petruo also works as a songwriter. In April 2009 the song she wrote Ich sing nicht mehr für dich was performed by Fler feat. Doreen released.

After Petruo announced a new album for 2010 on her homepage at the end of 2009, she announced in April 2010 that no further album would be released. She no longer wants to appear in public. Demo versions of the announced album have appeared on various Internet portals. In June 2011 the song I have to move was published on various Internet portals.

academic career

Petruo initially completed a distance learning course in psychology at the University of Hagen and worked as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin. She then completed a master’s degree in cognitive neuroscience at the University of Dresden and worked as a research assistant at the University Clinic Dresden in child and adolescent psychiatry. In December 2018, Petruo completed her doctorate with the assessment Magna cum laude and then worked as a psychologist in Dresden.

She has been a Post-Doc at the University of Southern California since 2019 .
