Fler (born April 3, 1982 in West Berlin ; real name Patrick Losensky ) is a German rapper . He also appears, like the late US rapper The Notorious BIG , under the pseudonym Frank White (from the film King of New York ). He is the founder and owner of the Masculin label .

Life

Early youth

Fler grew up in the thermometer settlement in Berlin-Lichterfelde . His father left the family when Fler was a few years old. At the age of 15 he was given psychological treatment and later in a home. In the home he began an apprenticeship as a painter and varnisher , which he broke off and in which he met the rapper Bushido . First they made a name for themselves in the Berlin sprayer scene. For Fler, a career as a rapper meant a way out of petty crime and financial difficulties.

Career

Beginnings with Bushido and debut album (2002-2005)

Fler became known from 2002 through his collaboration with Bushido on the joint collab album Carlo Cokxxx Nutten (under the pseudonym Frank White) and Bushido's album Vom Bordstein bis zur Skyline . In October 2003 he was signed to the Berlin hip-hop label Aggro Berlin . His first single AggroberlinA (2004) entered the German charts at number 59. Fler's first solo album Neue Deutsche Welle was released on May 1, 2005 and entered the German album charts at number 5, where it stayed for 16 weeks. The first single was NDW 2005 and entered the charts at number 9. A melody and the vocals of the chorus are based on Falco's hit Rock Me Amadeus . The second single According to its own rules with the rapper G-Hot made it to number 22 in the charts. With his track Identity he takes a specific position on the “Nazi allegations” (e.g. “I'm not a Nazi, I'm a German with an identity” or “If Nazis rap, believe me, they'd all be dead, you want to fuck anyone now, fuck the NPD ! ”), explains where the hatred in his songs comes from and continues to point out the, in his opinion, schizophrenic attitude of society, which wants to ban his music and that of others, but porn and Quentin-Tarantino - Tolerate films. In mid-2005 Fler raps on the single Jump, Jump (DJ Tomekk is coming) in the chorus and in the first verse about his success with the album Neue Deutsche Welle. The song placed third in the German charts. Well-known hip-hop greats such as DJ Tomekk , Harris and Sido play in the video . At that time it was one of the most elaborate and expensive music videos in German hip-hop.

"Trendsetter" and other publications (2006–2008)

In 2006 the album Trendsetter was released , which entered the charts at number 4 and stayed there for eleven weeks. The single Papa is back reached number 23 in the charts and Cüs Junge reached position 50. Chef (Clip & Klar) and We remain standing appeared as music videos. On February 2, 2007, Fler launched his mix tape Airmax Muzik . Sido announced earlier in an interview that this tape would respond to attacks by, for example, Shok Muzik or Bushido. To the song Was is Beef? , in which Fler is supported by Sido and Alpa Gun , a video was shot and published on the Internet. Also to Das ist los! A video was shot with Alpa Gun and Bass Sultan Hengzt . In April 2007 the Airmax-Muzik -Tour was partially canceled by Aggro Berlin. The reason was an illness of Fler. In July 2007 the rapper presented his own New Era cap collection, which was released in limited editions. On January 25th, 2008, Fler's third solo album, Fremd im Heimat , was released. In an interview in advance, Fler stated that after the publication of Neue Deutsche Welle and the Nazi allegations at Trendsetter, he attached more importance to technology and flow than to provocative texts. With the third album he wanted to combine both.

The first single, Deutscha Bad Boy , was released on January 11th. Torch , former rapper with Advanced Chemistry , responded with outrage at the expropriation of the name of the first Chemistry single. The Brothers Keepers association also attacked Fler and Aggro Berlin shortly after the album was released, similar to B-Tight's Neger Neger . The music broadcaster MTV announced even before the release of the song Deutscha Bad Boy that it would not broadcast the music video for the song due to ambiguous and German national texts. The rap group Südberlin Masculin , together with Godsilla , emerged from the collaboration on Fremd in their own country . They named themselves after the song of the same name on the album. The name is a reference to the group Westberlin Masculin , which consisted of Kool Savas and Taktloss from 1997 to 2000 and is considered to be one of the forerunners of German battle rap . From Südberlin Masculine videos were to When the beat is no longer running , and what happened? / I'm a published rapper . The collaboration album reached number 22 in the charts, which was Silla's best and Fler's worst chart placement.

Shortly before the release of his album Fler , he separated from his record company Aggro Berlin . At the end of 2010 Fler and Bushido went their separate ways. A responsible reason was not given. According to rumors, the reconciliation of the rappers Bushido and Sido is said to have led to this. At the beginning of 2011, Fler founded his own independent label Masculin . Originally it was supposed to market music by rappers Fler, Silla and Reason. Instead of Reason, however, the rapper G-Hot was signed. The first publications soon appeared. These plans were then discarded and his eighth solo album Behind Blue Eyes was released on November 2, 2012. The style of the album is musically based on southern rap / crunk and in terms of content differs from the gangsta rap known for Fler. Texts. This brought him a lot of negative criticism, especially in Germany. However, the album reached number 3 in the German album charts. Before that, the first single made it to number 1 at number 92 in the German single charts. Music videos appeared for songs number 1 , Behind Blue Eyes , La Vida Loca and You're Worth It . Fler described the album as the first attempt to integrate so-called southern rap in the German hip-hop scene. A week before the album was released, the second single, Pheromone, was released . The music video for this was removed several times from the YouTube platform because of the erotic scenes it contained. More videos appeared for the songs Real Men and Chrome . In September 2013 the masculine mixtape Vol. 3 was published and reached rank 8 in Germany. In September 2013 there were rumors of a reunification of Fler's old and closed label Aggro Berlin . However, these rumors were rejected by Fler.

New school era and musical reconciliation with Farid Bang (since 2016)

On May 27, 2016, the EP Probation Over was released , alluding to the end of Fler's suspended sentence. The album Vibe , which was released in September 2016 and reached number 1 in the German, Austrian and Swiss album charts, became the singles Unterwegs ( feat.Sentino ), Infrared , Lifestyle of the poor and dangerous , the city boy and you have the most beautiful ass released to the world . The latter made it to position 93 in the German single charts. The chorus contained a sample from the song of the same name by Alex C.

On June 30, 2017, the collaboration album Epic was released together with the rapper Jalil , who was under contract with Maskulin, and was number 1 in the album charts in Germany and Switzerland. The advance single Predigt charted in all three German-speaking countries. Fler was also featured on the Bushido album Black Friday . Their common song CCNDNA also made it into the single charts. Legal difficulties he received in October 2017 after being in the wake of a "masculine" -Modekollektion the artwork of the 1997 Rammstein -album longing - painted it showed the musician heads white and with metal equipment in the face, the photos are from the artist Gottfried Helnwein - on Print shirts and had them presented by Till Lindemann's former friend , Sophia Thomalla . The lawyers of the Rammstein GbR forbade him to do so. Fler then announced that he had only had an oral promise from Lindemann and Thomalla.

Fler had announced his new album Flizzy on September 15, 2017 , which was finally released on March 23, 2018. Big names like Rick Ross , Azad and Fler's long-time archenemy Farid Bang were featured as guest contributions. The titles Tag Eins , AMG , Big Dreams , Pfirsich and the opener Flizzy also entered the single charts. However, since the album's Amazon box was not included in the charts, the album “only” reached 4th place in the German album charts. At the same time, Fler was on hiphop.de in a joint interview with the rapper Manuellsen , where they talked about their beef and their subsequent reconciliation, among other things.

Fler has had his own fashion brand Ghetto Sport by Maskulin since 2018 .

On March 29, 2019, Fler's 15th solo album Colucci was released , whose singles Keinen like me , Goosebumps and Sex Money Murder hit the German charts in advance. The rapper Mosenu , whom Fler signed to his Masculin label in 2018, is featured on six songs on the album.

On March 20, 2020, Fler's 16th solo album Atlantis was released. The associated singles Shirinbae , Fame , Noname (a disstrack against his former companion Bushido ), Grind and Lost all hit the German charts.

Conflicts with rappers

Fler is known for frequent beef , which is usually verbal disputes involving e.g. B. by insults (" disses ") on records to have with other rappers.

With Bushido (2004–2009, 2014–2015, since 2017)

In 2004 Bushido Aggro Berlin left and founded his own label Ersguterjunge, which led to a rift between Fler and Bushido. The start of Germany's largest beef between the labels Aggro Berlin and Ersguterjunge. In January 2005, Fler caused a sensation in the scene with his answer to Eko Fresh's diss track Die Abrechnung , in which he mainly attacked Kool Savas , but also Fler. In the track Hollywood Turk, Fler attacks Eko Fresh, Royal Bunker and his former collaboration partner Bushido. Answers were received from all sides. Royal Bunker responded with the track Who? Fler? and Bushido with the title Flerräter , on which surprisingly Eko Fresh can be heard as a guest, although he was also attacked by him on The Reckoning .

Fler's answer was not long in coming, he continued the beef with the track Du Sacrifice , in which his label colleague B-Tight can also be heard. Assumptions that these battle tracks were mainly created for promotional purposes were rejected by those involved. Another track by Bushido and Kay One followed, with the title SIDO, in which the rappers Sido, Fler and Alpa Gun were attacked. After Fler left, the Aggro Berlin label was dissolved in 2009. Before that, Fler and Bushido had made up again. They later released the collaboration album Carlo Cokxxx Nutten 2 (2009) and the crew album Berlins Most Wanted (2010) with Kay One .

Then Fler and Bushido went their separate ways again when Fler launched his own label Masculin in 2011. From 2014 to 2015, mutual taunts followed again via social networks and on recordings from both rappers. After subsequent rapprochements, there were two songs together again in 2016 (“Attitude”, “CCNDNA”), before the situation got worse again and there was a break in contact, which continues to this day, after some people from Fler's environment - including music - and video producers - were "poached" by Bushido and from then on worked for him and his label. On the 2018 album Flizzy, Fler teased Bushido several times, while guest musician Sinan G "shot" verbally against Bushido by name. Afterwards, however, Fler stated in various interviews that the Bushido topic was finally "through" for him. Since then, especially since Bushido's separation with Capital Bra and Samra, the dispute between Fler and Bushido has escalated. Since then, Fler has often insulted Bushido in Instagram videos and interviews, calling him a "rat", "dog" and "parasite" who would do "disgusting things" every day. After Bushido reported back to the public after a long break at the end of August 2019 and announced the album CCN4 , the conflict between the two reached a new height. Incidentally, Bushido "shot" several times in songs against Fler. Fler responded in November 2019 with the "Disstrack" Noname , which was directed exclusively against Bushido and his wife Anna-Marie Ferchichi.

With Kollegah and Farid Bang (2009-2017)

The conflict between Fler and Kollegah and Farid Bang started with the track Westdeutschlands Kings published by Kollegah, Favorite and Farid Bang. A few days later, the Disstrack, recorded by Fler, Silla and Kitty Kat, followed . You used to be fans as the three performers accuse their opponents of having dissed just to “promote the sampler”.

The Disstracks fan mail from Kollegah and Schrei nach Liebe von Fler appeared in the same year. A line rapped by Kollegah in the song Fanpost was criticized , in which he expressed himself disparagingly about Silla's mother: “Who are you Godsilla? I fuck your mother whore across her living room ”. However, shortly before the album Jung, Brutal, Gutschend 2 was released in 2013, Kollegah apologized for the line against Silla.

In 2010, Farid Bang released the Disstrack Stress ohne Grund , which is musically based on the song Carlo Cokxxx Nutten von Fler , released in 2002 . In addition, he often teased Fler on the album Asphalt Massaka 2 . The latter responded in 2011 with the song Südberlin on probation , in which he also attacked Kollegah. He also released the song Geh zueite with Silla in 2012 , which also includes attacks against Farid Bang and Kollegah.

On the album Jung, brutal, gutaussehend 2 , which was released in 2013 by Kollegah and Farid Bang, Farid Bang teased Fler again. On the album Blaues Blut , released in the same year, the rappers Fler, Silla and Jihad responded to Farid Bang's taunts. In addition, Fler published the disstrack Courage to ugliness , in which he dissed Farid Bang and Kollegah.

At the beginning of January 2014, Farid Bang Fler publicly referred to several times as “son of a bitch”. Fler then publicly announced his alleged place of residence, offered Farid to resolve the dispute “one on one” and threatened him, “You will be in hospital after this fight”. In response to this, Farid Bang stated that he would “just stop by” Fler “soon”. A few days later, Farid Bang offered him to visit “Scheurenstrasse” in Düsseldorf .

At the end of January 2014, Farid Bang and Fler finished their “Beef” in public. However, both stated that they wanted to publish their tracks recorded in the past anyway. The day before, Kollegah had declared his "beef" with masculine over.

At the end of July, Farid Bang teased Fler again, saying that he would buy so-called followers on the photo-sharing platform Instagram . A little later, Farid Bang published a falsified chat history in which Fler allegedly insulted his label colleague Silla . After Farid Bang expressed himself disparagingly about a photo on which Fler was to be seen with his partner, the verbal argument escalated again.

On September 2, 2016, Kollegah published Fanmail 2 . Only 15 minutes after publication it was deleted by injunction. On the track, Kollegah claimed that Fler was raped as a teenager. Although this story has been proven to be wrong, Fler was henceforth dissed by numerous other people with allusions to it, including Bushido , Animus , Bonez MC and the 187 Strassenbande , rapper Diverse , Jan Böhmermann and Capital Bra .

On June 9, 2017, both Fler and Farid Bang published a joint photo and declared the end of the year-long “beef”. In 2018 and 2019, Farid and Fler each released a song together. In early 2020, Fler's first song with Kollegah was released, Public Enemies (Farid Bang feat. Fler & Kollegah).

With Sido (2010-2017)

After the reconciliation of Fler and Bushido, Sido changed the line from the song Mein Testament . At the beginning the line was: "Fler gets my three gold plates, no matter what everyone says, you were never under my golden shadow". On his 2010 album MTV Unplugged Live aus'm MV the following line could be heard: “Fler gets nothing. Well, I have to disappoint you. He has everything he needs with his new friends ”.

In the same year Fler published the song First Ghetto, then Promi , on which he settled with Sido. In addition, in the following two years the songs Everything fucked and Ich und kein Maske Fler were published, on which he attacked Sido. Sido's line from the song Mein Testament was subsequently changed several times during performances.

The "beef" is officially over since the rapper Mortel recorded the song Nie mehr broke for his mixtape Racaille together with Sido and Fler in October 2017 .

With the 187 street gang (since 2018)

With the rappers LX , Gzuz and Bonez MC from the 187 Strassenbande , Fler has been serving a "beef" since 2018. In July 2018, Gzuz said in a video to a girl who wears a shirt from Fler's fashion brand Masculine that he thinks her eyes are beautiful, but that the shirt doesn't work at all and is "shit". Fler reacted to this and since then there have been taunts from both sides every now and then. In 2019, the verbal argument between Bonez MC and Fler on the internet led to Bonez MC asking Fler to a boxing match, which was to take place in the Hamburg pub Zur Ritze . Fler showed himself ready to fight with Bonez MC. The fight did not materialize, however, because both had different ideas about how the fight should be carried out. Fler wanted cameras filming the fight as evidence. Bonez MC refused and did not want to make the argument public.

Within the rap community, a meme emerged from the fact that if two people quarrel, they should clarify their problems in the "crack".

With manual lenses (2014-2017, since 2020)

At the beginning of 2014 Fler published the Disstrack boy with character , in which he referred to his former protégé Nicone as his "bimbo". Thereupon Nicone expressed himself insultingly in his reply track Fanmail 2 about Fler's wife. Later, a screenshot of a chat history caused a stir by Fler titling Nicone as "Nigga". The rapper Manuellsen then published a video message in which he verbally attacked Fler. Ultimately, you then phoned and found a good ending, as both rappers said in various interviews. At the beginning of 2018, both were guests on the YouTube program “#DerDiisch” on hiphop.de and spoke again about this topic - this time in a harmonious way. In the years that followed, Manuellsen and Fler got closer and closer and were in contact. Manuellsen also said at the beginning of 2020 that he could imagine a joint album with Fler. After Fler had "Beef" with the artists of Bantu Nation at the end of March 2020, Manuellsen sided with the Bantu Nation and "shot" against Fler. Fler has not yet reacted to the taunts from Manuellsen.

With former masculine artists (since 2013)

To this day, Fler has always had big “beef” with almost all of the former artists on his Maskulin label as well as artists who were close to the label, who worked in its environment and published songs with Fler. These artists include Nicone, Animus , Silla , Sentino , Mortel , Jalil and Mosenu . Except for the dispute with Nicone, all of the “beefs” are not over yet.

At the end of March 2020, the "Beef" between Fler and Jalil, which had previously been declared ended by both sides, escalated again due to a dissline from Fler against Jalil ("In the Apple Store you were a slave, then Django Unchained for me"). According to him, the reason for the line was that Jalil threatened to send other people on him, which he has not forgotten to this day and with which he is said to have crossed a line. Jalil denied this and contradicted this representation. In an interview, Fler also referred to the accusations of racism against him, which u. a also from Jalil came in and denied that the line was meant to be racist. He said u. a. also that no “white rapper” would have pushed dark-skinned rappers like him, and named besides Jalil also Mortel and the Bantu Nation (the label around the rapper Sugar MMFK ) as an example, which led to the conflict between the latter rappers and Fler kindled. The rapper Manuellsen took a stand for the Bantu Nation and against Fler in this “Beef”. Days later, Sentino also published a disstrack against Fler on Instagram.

More controversy

Conflicts with the law

Fler has been convicted of criminal offenses a total of 13 times. The offenses concerned include bodily harm , threats , damage to property , insults and unofficial false statements . Because of his criminal record, Fler has been denied entry to the United States in the past . At the end of 2014, Fler published his police clearance certificate on his Facebook page , which contained various entries.

At the end of 2019, he berated a policewoman during a police check and called her a.o. a. several times as a "fanboy". A video about it landed on the net and caused a lot of media coverage. Fler was u. a. accused by the media and on the net that he has no respect for police officers. Fler denied this, however, and saw himself as right. In an Instagram livestream and interview, he commented on this and explained that there was already a long history between him and the Berlin police and described this and other actions by the Berlin police against him as “harassment”. The Berlin police made fun of Fler because of this incident on Twitter with a modified line of text by rapper Bushido . This is especially noteworthy because Bushido has beef with Fler.

On March 10, 2020, Fler was arrested at short notice for robbery and assault because he allegedly attacked a camera team from RTL , which wanted to question him because of the dispute between him and some “feminists” and stole parts of the camera. Fler contradicted the representation of RTL. According to his version, he did not want to conduct an interview and several times asked the reporter not to film him and his girlfriend. Since this did not comply with his request, he knocked the camera on the ground, whereupon two reporters attacked him and so a fight was started.

Allegation of misogyny

Fler has repeatedly been accused of misogyny and sexism in his songs by the media and individuals. In 2013, Fler expressed disrespect after his former partner, radio presenter Sophia Dinu, published nude photos in Playboy magazine . He publicly cursed her as a "thoroughbred slut". He had previously featured them in the songs Come on, have fun! and everything fucked denigrated. In an interview published in 2013, he explained that during the production of the video clip for his play “Pheromone”, in which he can be seen in bed with two naked girls, “it was also important that the girls got away with it ".

In March 2020, there was an argument between Fler and some people via social media . The background is a campaign by the feminist human rights organization Terre des Femmes . In a video, some women read rap lines from different rappers, which according to the organization are sexist and problematic, including the rap line "Don't want women, I want hoes, they have to blow like pros" from Fler's song Fame . After a feminist, who was seen in the video, criticized Fler and linked him via Instagram, a dispute developed between Fler and the woman with mutual insults. Fler also offered 2000 euros as a reward in the event that someone “brought” the woman to him. It's not the first time Fler has put this type of bounty on someone. After the comedian Shahak Shapira turned on and a dispute developed between the two, Fler threatened this, among other things, with violence.

Attitude towards Germany

Fler already received criticism for his debut album, as patriotic texts were to be heard on its first release. He was accused of flirting with neo-Nazi ideas. This resulted from texts such as "This is black-red-gold, hard and proud" (from: Neue Deutsche Welle ), various symbols such as the federal eagle in his videos and his self-styling as a German minority in hip-hop.

Fler himself was dismayed by the allegations and stated that he was by no means a neo-Nazi, that he detested such people and that he would continue to have nothing to do with them. He said, among other things, in an interview published in 2013:

“The Nazi allegations came from Stern and Spiegel back then because of this ignorance. People don't have a plan for rap, they don't have a plan for what environment I'm from, they don't know that I have 90 percent foreigners in my circle of friends. [...] Of course, people got it the wrong way. They just saw a young guy with a German flag rapping 'New German Wave' and then the Nazi reference came straight away. "

- Interview with the portal tikonline.de on May 19, 2013

He also explained his position as a patriot in Germany:

“For me, Germany is a huge problem child when it comes to it. People should be more concerned about how to look ahead and why it's not okay that you can't show a German flag in the video. Because that's the most normal thing in the world. […] I was in America for a long time and Germans only speak well, but Germans never speak well of themselves. I'm sad that Germany doesn't pat itself on the shoulder and say we're a good country, let's celebrate that more. A lot is about this guilty conscience. "

- Interview with the portal tikonline.de on May 27, 2013

At the beginning of 2013 he announced that he wanted to emigrate to the United States . He stated that he already had a green card . However, the emigration failed due to his three-year suspended sentence.

style

Fler's initial role models included Mobb Deep , 50 Cent , Lunatic , The Game , Eminem and Juelz Santana . Since 2012 he has been orienting himself partly on the so-called southern rap , whereby he concentrates more on the genres trap and crunk . In addition to Booba , Rick Ross and French Montana , rappers like 2 Chainz , Birdman and Lil Wayne are among the models of this style .

In addition to the typical gangsta and battle rap content, his texts also include his loner attitude and his life in Berlin . In addition, he partly devotes himself to texts about his past or about wealth and luxury goods.

Fler is also known for his interviews and arguments with other German rappers.
