B-Tight (born December 28, 1979 in Palm Springs , California , USA ; real name Robert Edward Davis ), also B! Tight , is a German rapper who was under contract with the hip-hop label Aggro Berlin , and is now one own record label now Paul owns.

Life

He was born in the United States to a German mother and an Afro-American father and grew up in Berlin .

B-Tight originally aimed for a sports career in basketball , but injured his foot. His first release was the album Wissen - Flow - Talent , only released on cassette , which he released together with his then roommate Sido under the project name Royal TS on the renowned underground hip-hop label Royal Bunker. This was followed by several cassette albums by the group Die Sekte (initially with the line-up B-Tight; Sido ; Vokalmatador and Rhymin Simon ), Royal TS and a solo cassette album called B-Tight, his album which was published by the label Sektenmuzik (later Aggro Berlin) and were evicted.

In 2001 he moved to the newly founded label Aggro Berlin together with Sido , where he released the EP Der Neger (in mir) in 2002 . This contains hard and aggressive texts, as they were typical for Aggro Berlin. On 8 August 2005, the mixtape was released Heisse Ware , a joint project with its so-called "Sparkling partners" Tony D . In addition to his solo activities, he runs the Sektenmuzik label with Sido and is a member of the rap crew Die Sekt , where he forms the duo Alles ist die Sekt with Sido .

In 2005 he controls the song Da hinter, Da hinter bei for the album Numma Eyns by DJ Tomekk , which is placed in the German album charts.

In his texts, cannabis consumption is often discussed. B-Tight endorses this under certain conditions. He also expresses his opinion publicly in panel discussions (including as an advocate on June 15, 2016 in the panel discussion "Kiffen" with Marlene Mortler ). Cannabis is a recurring theme on his following albums (e.g. Who smoked the weed ? , 2017).

It is striking that many of his former songs the term negro contain ( The negro , negro bums me , Psycho Negro B ). B-Tight himself explains this expression with the fact that his stepfather at the time was also black and the word "negro" was used normally at home and was also common with his friends. He does not initially associate anything negative with it, as long as it is not consciously used as a swear word .

B-Tight released the EP X-Tasy in late 2006 as a replacement for the postponement of his announced album Neger Neger . On November 20, 2006, B-Tight also fathered a daughter. The album Neger Neger , his first real album, was released on April 27, 2007.

In April 2007, B-Tight and Die-Sekt -members and back-up rappers from B-Tight, Viruz, Sido support all concerts on the Halt's-Maul-Zahl-Entry tour. On April 11th, B-Tight, Sido and Seryoga were guests at TRL . There B-Tight presented the video for his first solo single Ich bins (Bobby Dick) . The video reached number three in the TRL Most Wanted . In the second week, MTV restructured the show. It's me who came in second in the first edition of Urban TRL .

On August 1, 2007 the clip for the second single Der Coolste premiered on Aggro.tv . The single was released together with the ghetto edition of the album Neger Neger on August 17th. In addition, the mixtape Ghettoromantik was released on October 5, 2007 , on which not only members of Sektenmuzik but also rappers such as Afrohesse, King Orgasmus One , Kaisa and Automatikk are represented.

In October 2007, B-Tight announced that he would be a father again. The child was born in April. The rapper also married his girlfriend on August 8, 2008, with whom he now has three children.

The film Blutzbrüdaz was released on December 29, 2011 , in which B-Tight plays one of the leading roles alongside Sido. The film started with around 130,000 viewers in 257 cinemas within a week and thus landed at number 6 in the German cinema charts.

On September 28, 2012, B-Tight represented the state of Berlin at the Bundesvision Song Contest with the title Drinne and took seventh place. On the same day the album of the same name was released, which was produced by Christoph von Freydorf , front man of the Emil Bulls . The album contains a mixture of alternative rock , alternative metal and punk as well as spoken vocals from B-Tight. It was recorded by the B-Tight-Playaz. This band consists of Jamie "Citnoh" Richardson and Klaus Kössinger from the Emil Bulls, Fabian Mallmann ( Blue Man Group ) and DJ Perez from Beathoavenz . It includes features from Sido and Harris as your favorite rappers , Shrödaz , Metrickz and Shizoe .

His fifth solo album, Retro , was released on January 9, 2015 and reached number 8 in the German charts. A year later the album Born 2 B-Tight followed , which landed at number 6.

His seventh album Who smoked the weed away? was published at the beginning of February 2017 and was ranked 3rd in Germany and 5th in Austria. On February 23, 2018, B- Tight's eighth solo album AidS Royal was released, with which he reached the top of the German charts for the first time .

criticism

The Brothers Keepers association made B-Tight the focus of a campaign against sexism and racism in hip-hop. The rapper is accused of inflationary use of the word "negro" and old cliché images of the "hyperpotent" black. However, those differences of opinion were at least settled by Brothers Keepers member Tyron Ricketts & B-Tight. For example, Tyron Ricketts plays B. also in 2015 in B-Tights video "Drinne".
