D-Irie (* 1981 in Berlin ; real name Denis Quist ) is a German-speaking rapper . He became known in autumn 2006 with his debut single Was Jetzt los!?! .
biography
D-Irie was the son of one of Ghana originating Reggae musician born and a German mother. After his father was sentenced to prison for a crime and was eventually deported, he grew up alone with his mother. An attempt to break into an electrical shop went unpunished in the mid-1990s because at the age of 13 he was not yet of criminal age . More offenses followed. It was not until 2001 that D-Irie turned to his musical career after meeting the Berlin rapper Big Sal and the breakdancer Crazy B. Both promoted his talent and finally signed him to their music label Shok-Muzik , founded in Berlin-Wedding in 2004 . D-Irie's first releases appeared on the label's compilations . In August 2005, he finally brought his debut album, Double Risk, onto the market together with the rapper Crackaveli .
D-Irie achieved his first commercial success in 2006 with the single Was Jetzt los!?! distributed and promoted by Warner Music Group . After the premiere of the accompanying video, it briefly took first place in the audience charts of the German music broadcaster MTV in October 2006 . After the release it also reached the German single charts. With his album Live there , which was released in February 2007, he narrowly missed entry into the album Top-100 with 106th place, according to information from Media Control .
