Manuellsen (born January 26, 1979 in West Berlin ; real name: Emanuel Yousef Osman Smadi Twellmann , Arabic إيمانويل يوسف عثمان صمدی تويلمان) is a German-speaking singer and rapper from Mülheim an der Ruhr .
Career
Emanuel Twellmann was born in Berlin-Kreuzberg as the son of a political activist from Ghana . After his mother was deported , he grew up with a foster family in Mülheim an der Ruhr. He started rapping in clubs and at parties when he was around 15 and was a ghostwriter for various R&B artists when he was 17 . His texts are written in German . He also speaks Arabic, Turkish , Kurdish and some Dutch.
After appearing together with Ramsi Aliani, Manuellsen signed a contract with Eko Freshs, the then newly founded label German Dream Entertainment . He is represented on the album German Dream Allstars , but could not publish his already completed EP and his solo album on this label. A short time later, Manuellsen left the label.
At the Bundesvision Song Contest 2005 he performed together with Sandy for the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . There he met Samy Deluxe . After various other releases he was under contract with his label since 2006. In 2008 the mixtape This is my world - you only live in it through Deluxe Records . Shortly after the release, Manuellsen split from this label.
On August 16, 2008, Manuellsen released the 14:36 minute track You bring me to , in which he announced his retirement. His planned album Stories That Life Writes was made available as a free download on the Internet.
In December 2008 he released together with the rapper Decino again an album entitled Conspirates on Life and Pot , which could also be downloaded for free.
Manuellsen had his first film role in the 2010 feature film Bis zum Blut - Brothers on Probation .
In 2010 it became public that Manuellsen had converted to Islam . Since then he has published his works under the pseudonym M. Bilal . In addition, in an interview in June 2015, the rapper admitted his long-suspected connection with the Turkish Hells Angels .
In 2015 it was announced that Manuellsen was selling his own label through König im Schatten / ChapterONE / Universal Music GmbH. The rappers Zemine, Twin and Hazardo are also marketed under this label .
Legal proceedings
In August 2020, Manuellsen was sentenced to 15 months probation for collective assault . The background was a dispute with the rapper Animus , who complained in 2017 about the freedom of movement of Manuellsen's wife in a music video. This dispute was rocked up via the social media channels of the two, until Manuellsen raided Animus' studio. He threatened the rapper with a butterfly knife and gave him three slaps . A related video was shared on the internet.
