Farid Bang (2012)

Farid Bang (born June 4, 1986 in Melilla , Spain ; real name is Farid Hamed El Abdellaoui , Arabic فَرِيدْ أَلْعَبْدَلَاُوِي Farīd al-'Abdalāwī , DMG Farīd ʾal-ʿAbdalāwī ) is a German-speaking rapper with Moroccan and Spanish roots whogrew upin Düsseldorf . Since 2014 he has published his works on his own label, Banger Musik . Before that he wasunder contractwith German Dream / Seven Days Music.

Life

Farid Bang was born in 1986 in the North African exclave Melilla , which belongs to Spain and where his father comes from, and has both German and Spanish citizenship. His mother comes from Nador in Morocco , but came to Düsseldorf with her family as a small child and grew up there.

After Farid's birth and wedding, which took place at the same time in Melilla and which, according to Farid, was the reason his mother was staying there, he lived with his parents in Torremolinos in the southern Spanish province of Malaga . When he was eight years old, his father was sent to prison for drug smuggling. His mother moved to Düsseldorf without her husband, from whom she separated, where Farid was in second grade. There he later attended a secondary school in Pempelfort , which he finished with a secondary school leaving certificate with an average grade of 2.7.

At the age of 19, inspired by his friend Tekken , he started rapping. When he met Eko Fresh through Summer Cem , he signed a contract with his label German Dream Entertainment . In 2005 three songs appeared with him on Eko Fresh's mixtape Fick still your story , Eko's reckoning with Kool Savas . At that time, Farid Bang was still using the pseudonym Farid Urlaub (based on Farin Urlaub ). An album called Ghetto Codex was originally planned for 2006, but it was never realized.

Farid Bang (left) and Kollegah (2009)

On July 4, 2008, Farid Bang's debut album Asphalt Massaka was released via German Dream Entertainment . However, the album was unsuccessful. He then drew attention to himself as a battle rapper . In 2009 he took part in the two " diss tracks" West Germany Kings (on the Chronik 2 compilation ) and fan mail , which were directed against Aggro Berlin , Fler , Godsilla and Kitty Kat . Then the rapper MOK started a so-called beef with him. At the beginning of 2012, the album Banger Leben shorter , released the year before, was indexed by the Federal Testing Agency for Media Harmful to Young People (BPjM). "Decisive for the indexing are the songs No. 2 Du fils de Pute , No. 3 3 times in life , No. 6 Please Spitte 5000 , No. 7 Neureiche Wichser (NRW) , No. 8 One stitch is enough , No. 9 Bangers live shorter and no. 13 Welcome to the Kö . The songs were classified as brutal and inciting to violence or as immoral and discriminatory against women, ”the BPjM told Rap.de.

In 2010 he and Kollegah contributed the song Discobitch to the album Ehrenkodex by DJ Tomekk and Toony, which was released on a Polish label. It contains many features of German and Polish artists.

On January 27, 2012, the fourth solo album, The Last Day of Your Life, was released, which entered the German album charts at number 3 in the first week of the chart. With Jung, brutal, gutaussehend 2 a joint album with Kollegah was released on February 8, 2013. It entered the German charts at number 1 in the first week of sales and was the best-selling German rap album in the first week until King von Kollegah was released. On March 4, it was announced that the album received the gold record for over 100,000 copies sold. In 2012 he founded his own label Banger Musik .

In 2013 Farid Bang played a supporting role as Paco in the film Fack ju Göhte , alongside Elyas M'Barek and Karoline Herfurth . He also had short appearances in this role in the sequels Fack ju Göhte 2 from 2015 and Fack ju Göhte 3 from 2017. On March 14, 2014, Farid Bang's fifth solo album Killa was released , with which he reached the top of the German charts for the first time as a solo artist. He was able to repeat this with his sixth solo album Asphalt Massaka 3 , released on March 27, 2015.

For the German edition of the soundtrack to the film Creed - Rocky's Legacy , Farid Bang recorded the song Creed , which was released when the film was released in January 2016. His seventh solo album Blood was released on May 27, 2016 . At the beginning of September 2017, Kollegah and Farid Bang announced Jung Brutal Gutaussehend 3 . At the end of September, Sturmmaske auf (Intro) released the first single on the album, with which they reached the top of the German charts. Jung Brutal Gutaussehend 3 was released on December 1, 2017; Gold status was achieved in Germany eight days before the official release.

The eighth solo album Genkidama was originally due to be released on April 17th, 2020. Due to the measures taken in the course of the corona pandemic , the release was postponed to May 29, 2020. On May 28, 2020, Farid Bang released the Kamehameha EP . It contains four songs, including two disstracks against the BigFM presenter Lola Weippert, which were released as singles. She had previously expressed criticism of Farid Bang's alleged hostility towards women. A dispute arose that was particularly fought out on social media, such as Instagram . Finally, the Big-FM radio team apologized for some of the statements.

The Genkidama Deluxe Edition also includes a competition, the main prize of which is Farid Bangs S63 AMG in the Mansory version. For this reason, according to Farid Bangs, it does not count as an evaluation component for the album charts. At the same time as the promotion phase of the eighth solo album, which had been worked on for two years, Farid Bang created the format Das Instalent , a casting show for newcomers and singers on Instagram. The winner of the format is the musician @bayorbaby .

Controversy

"Beef" with competitors

Farid Bang is known for frequent beef (in German: Streit), so usually verbal disputes that z. B. by insults (" disses ") on records to have with other rappers. This led to verbal conflicts with u. a. Sido , Franky Kubrick , MOK , Alpa Gun , Fler , Silla , Kayef and Shindy .

Conflict with masculine (2009-2017)

Farid Bang has had a long argument with Fler and other rappers from his Masculin label . Farid Bang teased Fler in the song Westdeutschlands Kings , which he recorded in 2009 with Kollegah and Favorite , and in 2010 published the disstrack Stress ohne Grund , which is musically based on the song Carlo Cokxxx Nutten by Fler , which was released in 2002 . In addition, he often teased Fler on the album Asphalt Massaka 2 .

Fler responded in 2011 with the song Südberlin on probation , in which he also attacked Kollegah. He also released the song Geh zueite with Silla in 2012 , which also includes attacks against Farid Bang and Kollegah. In addition, in the same year the masculine artists G-Hot and Nicone published a disstrack against Farid Bang and Kollegah.

On the album Jung, brutal, gutaussehend 2 , which was released in 2013 by Kollegah and Farid Bang, Farid Bang teased Fler again. On the album Blaues Blut , released in the same year, the rappers Fler, Silla and Jihad responded to Farid Bang's taunts. In addition, Fler published the disstrack Courage to ugliness , in which he dissected Farid Bang and Kollegah and then imitated them . On the song The Bloody Path 2 , also released in 2013, Farid Bang responded to Silla's taunts.

Farid Bang announced his fifth solo album entitled Killa . This was understood by Silla and his followers as an allusion to the pseudonym "Silla the Killa". From then on, taunts followed via the Instagram and Facebook networks . Later on, Silla announced his next solo album entitled Banger .

At the beginning of January 2014, Farid Bang Fler publicly referred to several times as “son of a bitch”. Fler then publicly announced his alleged place of residence, offered Farid to resolve the dispute “one on one” and threatened him, “You will be in hospital after this fight”. In response to this, Farid Bang stated that he would “just stop by” Fler “soon”. A few days later, Farid Bang offered him to go to “Scheurenstrasse” in Düsseldorf , a street in the so-called “Maghreb district” around Düsseldorf Central Station.

At the end of January 2014, Farid Bang and Fler finished their “Beef” in public. However, both stated that they wanted to publish their tracks recorded in the past anyway.

In the summer of 2014, the beef between Farid Bang and Fler was heated up again because Farid Bang had made fun of Fler's girlfriend on Facebook several times . Fler replied with a letter in which he described Bang as a "guest in Germany" and asked to go back to his country. The letter generated a great response outside of the rap scene, with Fler often being strongly attacked and referred to as a Nazi . Both Fler and Farid Bang announced further insults against each other for their upcoming albums.

The beef reached another high point when Fler hacked into Farid Bang's album player on his Facebook page. During the audio sample for the song Asocial Moroccan , an announcement from Fler could be heard. There was no reaction from Farid Bangs.

On June 9, 2017, Farid Bang published a photo together with Fler at an airport. Due to the caption “Ramadan is really a beautiful month with unbelievable coincidences”, many fans speculated that the longstanding conflicts between the two had ended.

In January 2018, with the joint AMG music video for Fler's album Flizzy, it became official that the two artists put their beef aside and now enjoy a good "friendship".

Conflict with Alice Weidel

In summer 2018 there was a conflict with AfD politician Alice Weidel . In the course of the echo discussion, Alice Weidel criticized Farid Bang for his texts on Twitter. She said Farid was "nothing more than an anti-social Moroccan," a reference to his song, "Anti-Social Moroccan". In addition, the AfD politician Farid threatened to be deported and his German citizenship withdrawn. Thereupon this Weidel referred to in a song as a "Nazi Bitch" whose nose he broke, whereupon Weidel sued the rapper. Ultimately, Farid had to sign a cease and desist declaration she had requested. Nonetheless, Farid Bang later “dissed” the AfD in several songs.

Style criticism

Music critic Zoran Gojic from Münchner Merkur finds it astonishing that Bang's business model of insulting music colleagues and benefiting from the conflicts that followed was successful. Even against the background of gangsta rap, which is not to be taken very seriously, his lyrics are "shockingly stupid". In addition, there is a “deplorable lack of language understanding”. Apart from endless variations of misogynistic fantasies or open misanthropy, there is no such thing as “originality or even joke”. However, this claim is controversial because his works allow for different interpretations.

misogyny

Various media accused Farid Bang of making misogynistic statements in his rap lyrics and, in one case, of mocking victims of domestic violence.

Accusation of anti-Semitism

During the presentation of the Echo Music Prize in 2018, Campino attacked him and Kollegah sharply in his acceptance speech. The main focus was on the following line from Bang's song 0815 on the album Jung, brutal, gutaussehend 3 : “And because of me, they are armed during the performance / My body is more defined than by Auschwitz inmates”. The word "defined" is used here with its meaning in bodybuilding and means the ratio of muscle mass to body fat . The line of text compares the body of the speaker, which is low in fat due to the training, with the bodies of starved inmates of the extermination camp .

The Echo Advisory Board, however, referred to artistic freedom and decided against recommending the two rappers to be excluded. The pair's record company also first stood behind the two rappers, but shortly afterwards they announced that they would stop working with them for a while. The subsequent controversy over the award led to the elimination of the Echo in April 2018.

Beyond Germany, the controversy had consequences for planned concerts by Bang. A first joint appearance with Kollegah in early May 2018 was canceled in Switzerland. The reason is the anti-Semitic texts of the "scandal rappers".

At the beginning of May 2018, the Düsseldorf public prosecutor's office announced that it was investigating Bang and Kollegah for the criminal offense of incitement to hatred. Two criminal charges had previously been filed against the musician.

On June 7, 2018, Farid Bang visited the Auschwitz I concentration camp (main camp) together with Kollegah . In honor of those murdered in occupied Poland during the Nazi era , the musicians laid flowers there.

The album Jung, Brutal, Gutaussehend 3 has been indexed by the Federal Testing Office for Media Harmful to Young People since September 28, 2018 .
