bigFM is a network of currently three private, national radio broadcasters in west and south-west Germany: bigFM Baden-Württemberg for Baden-Württemberg , bigFM Rheinland-Pfalz for Rhineland-Palatinate and bigFM Saarland for Saarland . A contemporary hit radio format (CHR) is broadcast.

organizer

The organizers are bigFM Baden-Württemberg GmbH & Co. KG, based in Mannheim (bigFM Baden-Württemberg / Der Neue Beat), and Rheinland-Pfälzische Rundfunk GmbH & Co. KG, based in Ludwigshafen am Rhein (bigFM Rhineland-Palatinate / Hot Music Radio) and Skyline Medien Saarland GmbH based in Saarbrücken (bigFM Saarland). Due to the three legally independent organizers of the bigFM programs, the shareholder and owner structures are very complex.

On behalf of the three organizers, bigFM Programmproduktionsgesellschaft mbH, based in Mannheim, produces individual program parts for the regional bigFM programs.

history

The broadcast started on April 1, 2000 in Baden-Württemberg. Sunshine has already been broadcast live on the frequencies since November 20, 1999 .

In Rhineland-Palatinate there is a cooperation with RPR1 , here bigFM took over the frequencies of the former hit radio station RPR Zwei in August 2003 . In Saarland, bigFM has been broadcasting since September 5th, 2005 on the frequencies on which JAM FM Saarland was previously broadcast.

BigFM's studios are located in Koblenz , Cologne , Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Mainz , Saarbrücken, Stuttgart and Trier .

The current moderators are Rob Green , Lola Weippert, Marlen Gröger, Fabian "Fußball Fabi" Kapfer, Dani Wiese, Jenny Kreuzinger, Reece, Daniel Kaiser, René Krämer, Frank "Till" Simoleit, Aline Lehmann, Thomas Sachsenmaier, Rolf Vogl, Savannah Brandt, Sophia Pisot, Tara Sharei, “ Der Storb ”, 257ers , Jimmy Love, DJ Cuebrick and DJ Boulevard Bou. Church representatives such as Father Alfred, Beatrice Krist and Heiko Breuning will also moderate .

At the end of 2010, the LMK announced that in addition to bigFM, the NRJ Group with Energy Rheinland-Pfalz and Regiocast with Now FM were applying for the expiring bigFM broadcast license. In March 2011, the LMK came to the decision that the licenses should be extended with bigFM. The broadcaster undertook to produce more programs in the Rhineland-Palatinate studios.

On December 17, 2012 it was announced that Oliver Pocher will temporarily moderate the morning show from January 2, 2013. However, due to his television activities, he was not live in the studio. Pocher's activity was only considered a temporary solution and was originally intended to be limited to three months. By then, the station hoped to have found a new morning presenter for Hans Blomberg , who had previously switched to 104.6 RTL . Despite a new moderator, Pocher could still be heard on the morning show for a few months.

From May 2012 to July 2016, bigFM broadcast the additional program bigFM WorldBeats in the DAB + standard in Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate. Previously, this program, which mainly broadcasts music from the Balkans and Russia , was only broadcast via webstream. Since August 2016, the main program has been broadcast on DAB + instead of bigFM WorldBeats . bigFM WorldBeats is again a pure internet broadcaster.

Since 2017, the Throwback Thursday format has been running every Thursday on bigFM between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Listeners can ask for songs from their youth by phone, Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram. The interactive live broadcast concept has no music repetitions. The broadcast's contributions are shared more than average, so that the community character on the social web is higher than that of other radio broadcasts.

bigFM presents and organizes concerts, sports, comedy and party events and is a partner of well-known festivals such as Rock am Ring, Street Parade , Taubertal-Openair and SonneMondSterne -Festival. In 2018 bigFM took over the media partnership for Rock am Ring and in turn offers a special radio offer in the area around the festival under the name bigFM Ring Radio on the VHF frequency 87.7 MHz.

The bigFM Berlin program has been broadcasting on DAB + channel 12D in Berlin and Brandenburg since September 2018 .

BigFM operates the cross-media recruiting platform bigKARRIERE for young adults . This enables a company to target school leavers, young professionals and job seekers in a targeted manner.

criticism

The makers of bigFM repeatedly used practices that were rated by observers as "shitty on the phone" or tasteless deceptions. In one case in 2016, this also led to criticism from the Baden-Württemberg State Office for Communication of the station's marketing practice.

One of the station's fake actions took place in summer 2017. bigFM presenter Rob Green reportedly sent a WhatsApp message to a presenter on the public broadcaster Dasding . Green pretended in the bigFM program that the presenter was currently speaking the news for the SWR youth wave. If the presenter leaves the studio while the show is still on, says Green, she will get a job at bigFM in "Germany's biggest morning show". The campaign advertised as a "crazy solicitation" was a fake. The recorded news program from Dasding was fake. At the time, the moderator no longer worked for Dasding, but switched to bigFM after the regular termination of her contract. The Landesstiftung Baden-Württemberg then invited Rob Green to host their event against fake news , false reports and pretended information ("fake-off camp") for first-time voters and young adults and announced the media partnership with bigFM for the event.

bigFM regretted the cancellation of the event by the Landesstiftung Baden-Württemberg, but rejected both the foundation and the media the accusation of producing or distributing “fake news”. It was only a matter of “introducing a new, good journalist to prominence. A youth broadcaster can do that. ”In the comment area under media reports, a few users did not approve of the action, but described the excitement as exaggerated. Anyone who heard it live "knew straight away that it was set (...) The cell phone even started ringing, which would never have been heard." It was also pointed out that Marlen Gröger would receive the news during the news broadcast from Rob Green could not have read. After an investigation into the action, the State Office for Communication Baden-Württemberg (LFK) confirmed this point of view. There is also no violation of the state media law. The LFK accused the media criticism website Übermedien.de of reporting "untrue" about the bigFM campaign.
