Rea Garvey
Raymond Michael "Rea" Garvey (born May 3, 1973 in Tralee ) is an Irish singer and guitarist . He was the front man of the German band Reamonn, which dissolved in 2010 . In addition to his solo career, he also works as a songwriter and singer with other musicians.
Life
Rea Garvey is the son of a police officer and grew up in the Irish city of Tralee with seven sisters. In 1998 he left Ireland and came to Germany. He initially worked as a roadie and t-shirt seller at festivals. In 1998 he was looking for colleagues for a band through a newspaper advertisement. A little later Mike Gommeringer , Sebastian Padotzke , Uwe Bossert and Philipp Rauenbusch got together and founded the band Reamonn .
Garvey was not only the singer of Reamonn, but also sang the Jam & Spoon hit Be Angeled . The collaboration continued on the song Set Me Free . At the show Alive and Swinging , Rea Garvey sang the classics of The Rat Pack together with Xavier Naidoo , Sasha and Michael Mittermeier . The gala was organized for the benefit of the Saving an Angel Foundation . This show has continued since the end of 2011. He also works as a songwriter . Among other things, he wrote the English text of the song Sweetest Poison by Nu Pagadi . He also composed the song Ready Steady Go , which was interpreted by Elli . Garvey also worked with the medieval metal band In Extremo and contributed the Irish lyrics to the song Liam . In 2005 Garvey contributed two songs to the soundtrack for the movie Barefoot . On the one hand it is a cover version of the Leonard Cohen classic Hallelujah , on the other hand the self-written song Walk with Me .
In 2006 he recorded a version of the No. 1 hit All Good Things (Come to an End) with Nelly Furtado . In 2007 he recorded the title Let Go with Paul van Dyk , which can be found on his 2007 album In Between . You can also find his song Anna & Ludo / Hold Me Now on the soundtrack to Til Schweiger's film Keinohrhasen, which was released in 2007 . In 2008 he sponsored the Irish artist SJ McArdle as part of the IdeenSounds project , an initiative that has set itself the goal of developing young musicians independently of the commercial rules of the music market. With SJ McArdle he recorded his song Turn the World , which appeared on the first IdeenSounds sampler.
In March 2010 he was a jury member alongside the jury president Stefan Raab and the singer Joy Denalane on the show Our Star for Oslo , in which the German contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 was sought. In 2010 he also produced Each Tear with Mary J. Blige , which appeared on her album Stronger with Each Tear . In 2011 he recorded the title Running a Wrong Way with ATB , which is on his 2011 album Distant Earth . In September 2011 Garvey's first solo album Can't Stand the Silence was released , which he produced with Andy Chatterley.
From November 2011 to February 2012 Garvey was one of five coaches on the first season of the talent show The Voice of Germany , in which young vocal talents are sought. The British singer-songwriter Nerina Pallot was at his side as co-coach . Also in the second season he could be seen as a coach and put the winner with his protégé Nick Howard . After a year break, he returned in the fourth season in 2014 and was again coach on the show in the fifth season of 2015. His third solo album Prisma was recorded for the first time in the Hansa recording studios in Berlin, producer was again Andy Chatterley. In 2019 he was a juror on the vocal show The Masked Singer , but only for one episode. In season 2 he became a permanent juror.

In 2000 he founded the Saving an Angel project together with Reamonn . In March 2010, he received an honorary echo at the 2010 Echo Awards for his social commitment . Garvey has been an ambassador for the Clearwater Project since 2011 . As part of this project, water treatment systems are provided for people in the Amazon in Ecuador whose natural foundations have been destroyed by industry in the search for oil and gas. For this project, Rea Garvey received a Bambi in the Our Earth category in 2015 .
