The German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 was organized as a casting in a total of eight television programs, which were shown from February 2 to March 12, 2010 under the title Our Star for Oslo ( acronym : USfO ) on ProSieben and Das Erste .
After the internal selection of the German contribution for the ESC 2009 , unlike in previous years, the television viewers again decided which artist and which song should represent Germany in the final of the competition.
The winner was Lena Meyer-Landrut with the song Satellite , with which she also won the Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo on May 29, 2010 with 246 points .
In 2011 the format was nominated for the Grimme Prize in the Best Entertainment category.
prehistory
After the German contributions to the Eurovision Song Contest in the years 2007 to 2009 each had one of the last places and thus did not meet expectations, the NDR , which is responsible for the Eurovision Song Contest within ARD , looked for new concepts to make it more successful to become. ARD entered into a cooperation with Stefan Raab , who had previously participated in three German Grand Prix contributions - in 1998 as a composer, lyricist and conductor for Guildo Horn , in 2000 as an artist, composer and lyricist and in 2004 as an explorer, composer, and lyricist and guitarist for Max Mutzke - and was among the top ten on all three occasions. No German contribution could then achieve this. Since Raab is contractually bound to the private broadcaster ProSieben, the new type of cooperation between the two broadcasters came about.
concept
The new concept was presented on September 10, 2009 at a press conference in Cologne-Mülheim . On the podium were NDR director Lutz Marmor , ARD entertainment coordinator Thomas Schreiber , ProSieben managing director Andreas Bartl , ProSieben entertainment director Christiane Teich, 1Live wave director Jochen Rausch and Stefan Raab.
The participant for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo was determined in a total of eight television programs. In a nationwide casting , candidates were able to apply in a “casting box” at ProSieben and at various radio stations' events. In total, more than 4,500 people tried. The organizers ultimately selected twenty participants for the television shows. Ten of these candidates appeared in each of the first two elimination shows, with the best five progressing per show. In the following two shows, two participants were eliminated per round.
In the fifth show and in the quarter-finals, one participant was eliminated. In the semifinals, the two finalists were determined from the four remaining candidates. In the final, the audience first chose the song with which the candidate Germany is represented in Norway, and then from the two remaining candidates the winner.
The decision about which candidates would advance was made exclusively by the television viewer via televoting . The jury, chaired by Stefan Raab, assessed the artists, but had no direct influence on the decision. Successful German musicians sat on the jury alongside Raab. Yvonne Catterfeld and Marius Müller-Westernhagen were on the jury in the first show , Sarah Connor and Peter Maffay were in the second edition, Nena and King Boris in the third and Cassandra Steen and Sasha in the fourth episode . In the fifth show Joy Denalane and Rea Garvey commented on the performances, in the quarterfinals it was Adel Tawil and Anke Engelke . In the semifinals, Barbara Schöneberger and Jan Delay sat next to Raab, in the final Stefanie Kloß and Xavier Naidoo .
The first five shows as well as the semifinals could be seen from February 2, 2010 on Tuesdays at 8:15 p.m. on ProSieben. The ARD broadcast the quarter-finals on March 5th and the final on March 12th. Radio presenter Sabine Heinrich from 1 Live (ARD) and Matthias Opdenhövel from ProSieben hosted the programs . The events took place in the Brainpool TV studios in Cologne-Mülheim, in the same studio as Schlag den Raab .
