Theme music “Ma 'kuck'n” by Stefan Raab
production Marcus Wolter
Moderation Stefan Raab

Ma 'kuck'n was a show moderated by Stefan Raab on VIVA . It was broadcast live on the last Saturday of the month at 8 p.m. and was the second program alongside Vivasion Raab.

concept

The show was a kind of parody of the classic Saturday evening show , there were three talk guests and several live performances by music acts. The show seemed emphatically trashy and improvised; The studio decoration consisted of red artificial turf and blue oval bath mats on the walls (one of which was also the logo of the program), the talk guests had to sit on electronic rocking horses (as found for children in front of department stores), with the rocking function at the push of a button was served by Raab. Electronic overlays were not used; Instead, the cameramen held small handwritten notes in the camera and each film was introduced by Stefan Raab by pulling on a transparent toilet cistern filled with children's toys. In addition, the moderator already seemed emphatically unprofessional and entered the show with a chewing gum in his mouth, improvised all the moderations and insulted his invited guests.

Contributors

The “ RIAS Boys”, consisting of Till King (piano and trumpet), Kai Diamond ( Hammond organ ), Hajo Washington DC (electric bass) and Old Kansas Heini (drums) , provided live music in every program . They always played a theme based on classic Saturday evening shows and were presented in detail by Raab in every program, considering the silly stage names to parody the pseudonyms of band leaders from other late night shows such as Gottschalk Late Night . Every musical guest had to play live with this band, which, due to the cast as a typical dance band, led to bizarre versions, especially among the then current Eurodance groups.

Recurring elements

  • Technical innovations : At the beginning of each program, the team tried out questionable technical innovations, for example the program was broadcast in black and white, in a “9:16” format (with black bars on the left and right) or in “3D” (where the Image turned green and red). These changes were quickly reversed because, according to the moderator, they had not proven themselves.
  • Video sampler : Similar to the “nipples” later on TV total , Stefan Raab already had buttons on his desk (here still reminiscent of typical game show buzzers ) with which he could import short video clips. These were mostly striking laughs from older women, with which he rewarded punch lines.
  • Favorite jokes : Each invited guest should tell their favorite joke before the broadcast. This was then recorded before each performance, but stopped just before the punch line.
  • Street surveys : Raab was out and about in parking lots and shopping malls in Cologne trying to fool seniors with confusing questions. Since this concept was still something new back then, its questions were mostly taken seriously.
  • Interviews : Raab conducted meaningless interviews with prominent musicians like Prince Ital Joe , who were then Germanized with silly dubbing voices, for example the voice of Ernie from Sesame Street ( Gerd Duwner ).
  • Ullei from America : A member of the team reported in films from the “basement under the studio” and tinkered with useless inventions, which he explained in English with an extremely exaggerated German accent.
  • Fit with Raab : Raab tested “Sportarten für Blöde” in feature films, similar to later in the “Raab in danger” section on TV total.
  • Kelly Family : Raab tried in several feature films to get to the Kelly Family houseboat . These have always been a popular victim of his jokes.
  • Telephone : During the broadcast, viewers in the studio could call, which was indicated by the lighting of a telephone. Raab answered the phone at random times, and a very short, trivial conversation usually developed. Fans of the Kelly Family often complained about Raab's jokes and insulted him.

Others

To mark Stefan Raab's departure from VIVA, he also produced a program called “That can happen sometimes”, which adopted many of the concepts from “Ma 'kuck'n” and is a total pilot program for TV .
