Die Doofen were a nonsense music group consisting of the two comedians Wigald Boning and Olli Dittrich .
Origins
Boning and Dittrich had already made music for a long time when they met in Hamburg in 1992: Boning had already tried two bands as a punk singer after graduating from high school , Dittrich had released solo records several times, had been successful as a composer and had also worked for a record company for seven years worked.
They met at the Quatsch Comedy Club in Hamburg and subsequently developed their comedic talent together with various formats. Among other things, they founded “Wigald Boning & die Doofen”, which played nonsense titles such as Fiep, Fiep, Fiep (ie I love you) and released them as a single.
Act
On July 6, 1993, Boning and Dittrich became members of the RTL Saturday Night comedian troupe and also took over some of the show's already developed comedy numbers, such as Zwei Stühle - one opinion . In 1995 they also revived “Die Doofen” as a duo and appeared on the show with stupid texts like I'll build you a house out of pork head jelly , Der Große-Unkel Quetschungs-Blues and Tuff, Tuff, Tuff (we're going to the brothel) . They always announced their songs with … from the cycle “ Songs the World Doesn't Need ” , which is also the name of their first album, which was released in 1995 on CD and MC . The record reached number one on the German album charts and sold over a million times. Their first single Mief! (Take me now, even if I smell) also became a number 1 hit . For the album they were musically supported by Jeopard, who also worked as a producer (especially accordion, synthesizer and electro-trick bass).
For their success they were awarded the Echo , the Golden Tuning Fork and the Bambi .
Since Boning and Dittrich regularly produced new songs for the show, they already had enough material for a second LP in 1996, entitled Melodies for Melons , which, however, did not match the success of the previous album. The sales of the single Princess de Bahia Tropical were not enough for a chart placement. Soon after, Boning and Dittrich stopped appearing as Die Doofen on RTL Saturday night .
The End
When RTL Saturday Night ended in 1998 , Bonings and Dittrichs parted ways, in the last show they appeared for the last time as Die Doofen in a parody of the hit Time to Say Goodbye , disguised as Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli . Since then, both have successfully continued their careers separately; In addition to his television programs, Dittrich also plays as a drummer in the band Texas Lightning .
Boning received (for his show WIB-Schaukel ) as well as his former RTL Saturday Night colleague Tommy Krappweis (for Bernd das Brot ) the Adolf Grimme Prize in 2004 . As part of the award ceremony, Dittrich and Boning appeared together for the first time since 1998 as Die Doofen. However, it was a one-time recapitulation ; A renewed revival of the stupid is not entirely ruled out, but this is not to be expected in the foreseeable future.
