The TV total high diving was a 2004 to 2015 by Stefan Raab initiated and as a special broadcast of TV total in the program of the TV station ProSieben -presented Celebrity competition in diving . The idea for the event came to Stefan Raab after he had trained for a day with the junior world champions in 3-meter synchronized jumping Norman Becker and Sascha Klein as part of one of his contributions from Raab in danger for TV . The contributions to this were totally broadcast on September 16 and 17, 2002 on TV .

The theme music is Olympic Fanfare and Theme by John Williams , originally composed for the 1984 Summer Olympics .

The format has been widely imitated internationally with minor modifications. For example, it ran on the US broadcaster FOX under the title Stars in Danger: High Diving as a two-hour special for the first time on January 9, 2013. In 2012, Eyeworks developed the series Sterren Springen Op Zaterdag in the Netherlands based on the German model . Their concept (called Celebrity Splash! ) In turn formed the basis for corresponding programs in 25 other countries worldwide. The series format came back to Germany in 2013 as The Pool Champions - Celebrities under water . The takeover of many aspects of TV total diving by Eyeworks led in 2012 to a copyright dispute with the French-based production company Banijay International . A subsidiary of Banijay Entertainment, Brainpool TV, is one of the creators of the original TV total high diving format .

2013

The ninth competition was held again on November 23, 2013 in the Munich Olympic swimming pool. In this jumping there was the rule change that the last two placed in the first jump were no longer allowed to take the second jump.

During the final training session on November 22, 2013, TV chef Andreas Schweiger broke his nose when he touched it with his knee while diving.

Show acts were James Blunt with Bonfire Heart, the Backstreet Boys with In a World Like This and Family of the Year with Hero . Amelie Klever replaced the injured Andreas Schweiger in synchronized jumping with Ben. Her originally planned synchronous jump with Britta Heidemann was canceled. Steffen Groth was the winner in individual jumping and, together with Annabelle Mandeng, also in synchronized jumping.

2014

At the tenth TV total tower diving , as in 2013, the last two places in the first jump were no longer allowed to take the second jump.

Unlike other artists, there were no artists, but the qualification for the ARAG 20,000 Euro throw took place.

When Stefan Raab and Elton jumped for the second time, only Raab jumped. Commentator Ron Ringguth then suggested to Elton in his commentary to complain about an alleged flashlight. In such cases, a jump can be repeated. The jury then gave the two of them a second chance and their jump promoted them to third place.

The winners were Miss Ronja as well as Annabelle Mandeng & Miss Ronja.

The eleventh TV total diving took place on November 28, 2015, as in previous years, in the Munich Olympic swimming pool. The 2015 event was moderated by Steven Gätjen, Sophia Thomalla and Frank Buschmann. This is Buschmann's first assignment in a non-commentary role. Ron Ringguth acted again as commentator.

Basketball throw from the five-meter tower

In 2013 not only were the rules for regular jumping modified, but a new category was also introduced, namely the basketball throw from the five-meter tower. Here a candidate competes against Stefan Raab. The task is to jump from the five-meter tower to throw a basketball into a basketball hoop hanging over the water. The basket is placed so that it hangs over the water at a distance that it would have from the ground in a regular basketball game. In addition, it should be far enough away from the diving platform that it cannot be reached by jumping. Both the candidate and Stefan Raab each have three attempts, which they perceive alternately. If the candidate manages to land more hits than Raab, he wins the money in the jackpot (initially 10,000 euros). If he does not succeed, the jackpot for the next high diving will be increased by 10,000 euros.

2013: The One Million Dollar Shot for 10,000 euros

In 2013, when the category was re-launched, it was named One Million Dollar Shot for 10,000 euros . Candidate Christoph competed against Raab. He was a regular audience member and had qualified before the live show started. So he went into the duel unprepared (as did Raab according to his own statement). However, both could not achieve a single hit, so that the 10,000 euros ended up in the jackpot.

After the official attempts, Raab persuaded the moderators Steven Gätjen, Rebecca Mir and Matze Knop, as well as the commentator Ron Ringguth, to give each one a try. However, these four could not land a hit either.

2014: ARAG 20,000 euro litter

A year later, the category was renamed the ARAG 20,000 Euro Litter . Unlike in the previous year, however, the candidate was not selected from the audience, but there was the opportunity to apply in advance via the Internet. Three of the applicants (Thorsten, Kevin and Andreas) were invited to the show and had to qualify for the ARAG 20,000 Euro throw in the live show between the preliminary and final rounds. It was thrown onto a larger basket in the sudden death process . In the fifth round, Kevin won the qualification. After round 4 the basket was removed a little further in order to increase the difficulty and thus to end the qualification more quickly.

At the end of the broadcast (after the finals) there was a duel between Raab and Kevin with a basket of regular size. Again Raab protested that he had not rehearsed, this time in contrast to the candidates (they already knew before the show that they would get the chance and therefore had the opportunity to train). Both scored one hit in their three throws. The candidate was unable to outdo Raab and the 20,000 euros ended up in the jackpot.

reception

The fourth TV total diving (2008) was seen by 3.14 million people. This corresponded to a market share of 13.6%. In the target group of 14 to 49 year olds, 2.23 million people tuned in. ProSieben thus achieved a market share of 23.4%.

In a review by Sebastian Wieschowski for Spiegel Online , the fourth TV total high diving was rated positively. Although the show had "lengths", it did not disappoint the audience. Wieschowski sees the development of the event over the years as "from a funny ass bomb parade to a spectacular competition" as particularly positive. The Saturday evening program also benefited from Fabian Hambüchen's appearance . From the editor's point of view, Stefan Raab ensures variety on German television and, in contrast to Wetten, dass ..? , "Risky and worth seeing performances".
