Queensberry was a German girl group . It was put together as a quartet in late 2008 as part of the seventh season of the talent show Popstars . In summer 2010 two founding members left the band and were replaced by two new singers. In 2012 two band members left again. After that, the band only existed as a duo , which in October 2012 announced a creative break in favor of solo projects, which in 2013 proved to be a final separation. Queensberry was the last pop star band to exist for more than a year.

Band history

2008: Beginning with pop stars and taking the first steps

Once within the framework of the talent show Popstars , the first three members - Leonore Bartsch , Victoria Ulbrich and Gabriella De Almeida Rinne - by a jury had been selected before the final show in the band, were three candidates for the fourth and last place left in the band. Each of these candidates recorded an album together with the band members who had already been placed. The resulting three albums were released on December 12, 2008. Decisive for the selection of the fourth band member were the sales figures for the albums in combination with a televoting during the final show on December 18, 2008. The candidates received their version of their version per phone call and per album sold one vote each. From this process Antonella Trapani emerged as the last member of the band.

On December 20, 2008, the band's first video, No Smoke, was released. After being first released in 2004 by British singer Michelle Lawson , it had been covered twice before Queensberry released it again. Also on December 20, 2008, Queensberry appeared for the first time in the full cast on the television show Schlag den Raab .

The accompanying video was shot in Miami . The video premiere took place on May 8, 2009 at VIVA Live! and the television premiere on May 21, 2009 at the finale of Germany's Next Topmodel 2009 . The album couldn't get into the charts. The lead single of their second album Hello (Turn Your Radio On) , a cover of the group Shakespears Sister , was released on October 23, 2009. The studio album On My Own was released on November 6th, 2009. It not only includes Hello (Turn Your Radio On) , but Too Young again . The album On My Own reached position 26 in the German charts, but was no longer able to stay in the charts after the third week. The album was in the charts for a week in Austria and Switzerland.

In September 2009, Queensberry signed a record deal in the US with Buddah Brown Entertainment. There were no releases of singles or albums. For the German version of the film Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 , Queensberry dubbed the Chipettes and recorded the song The Song . In addition, a music video was released in December 2009, which also contains excerpts from the film.

2010: new members in the band

In March 2010, Queensberry had a guest appearance for two episodes in the Sat.1 series Eine wie keine , where they presented the title Lifelong Lovesong on March 25th . At the end of March 2010, Queensberry was nominated for the VIVA Comet in the “Best Band” category.

In June 2010 they released the songs Little Bit Wonderful and Superworld on the Hanni & Nanni soundtrack . Both songs were written and composed by Alexander Geringas and Joachim Schlüter.

Trapani and Ulbrich left the band in early July. Successors were Selina Herrero and the musical actress Ronja Hilbig , who had previously sung in Die Lollipops . The new formation of the band was announced on July 15, 2010 on the TV show VIVA Live! presents.

In December 2010 it was announced that Queensberry is no longer under contract with Warner Music .

On their Facebook page, they published Yo no puedo vivir sin ti ( German : “I can't live without you”) on December 24, 2010, a Spanish version of their first single, I Can't Stop Feeling . The song was translated into Spanish by José Valdes , a former member of the Hot Banditoz . It is the first official song with the new members, which they also presented at the ZDF spring show 2011 on the Canary Island of Lanzarote.

2011: Performances and other projects

In April 2012, Selina Herrero got out to concentrate on her schooling again.

In June 2012 both a new single and a new album were released. The single Timeless was released on June 1, 2012. The album Chapter 3 followed on June 22, 2012. The music video for Timeless was created on April 27, 2012 in Phantasialand in Brühl and was shown for the first time on the Bravo TV web show on May 21, 2012. Neither the single nor the album were able to match the success of previous releases with positions 90 and 91 respectively in the German charts. Nevertheless, on July 4, 2012, the band shot the video for the second single from the album, Girl like Me, in the Lusatian mining landscape . The single was released on August 31, 2012, but was the first single of the band not to hit the German single charts.

After Bartsch was officially absent due to illness at the end of August, Gabriella De Almeida Rinne and Ronja Hilbig performed the remaining appearances as a duo. In October 2012 Bartsch announced her departure on her homepage. The remaining duo also announced a break from the band in October 2012 in favor of solo projects.
