I wanna be loved by you
I Wanna Be Loved By You is a 1928 song composed by Herbert Stothart and Harry Ruby . Bert Kalmar wrote the text. It was originally written for the musical Good Boy and was initially sung by Helen Kane . Soon the song achieved great popularity . Helen Kane herself became a big star and the character Betty Boop , designed in 1930, is based on her.
The message of the song is simple. A woman confesses to a man that she only wants to be loved by him and no one else.
The refrain follows :
- I wanna be loved by you, just you,
- And nobody else but you,
- I wanna be loved by you, alone!
- Boop-boop-a-doop!
Over the next few decades, big stars like Frank Sinatra , Rose Murphy , Verka Serduchka and Sinéad O'Connor sang the song. The song has also been featured in several films, including the 1950 musical film Three Little Words . The best known is the version by Marilyn Monroe from Billy Wilder's classic comedy Some Like It Hot from 1959, in which she interprets the song as a member of a women's band . It has become one of her most famous songs and an evergreen . The song was voted number 128 in the Songs of the Century election.
