action
Dave wants to spend a relaxing vacation on a cruise ship together with the Chipmunks Alvin, Simon and Theodore as well as the Chipettes Brittany, Jeanette and Eleanor. But the chipmunks only have nonsense on their mind, especially Alvin. When Dave tries to apologize for Alvin's misconduct over dinner with the captain, everyone except Theodore disappears from the cabin without permission. The Chipettes go to the disco to dance and Alvin visits the casino, followed by Simon. Previously, Alvin switched the television in the cabin from the children's program Hallo Lolly to the horror film Jungle Monster 4 . Dave now finds out that behind the person disguised as a pelican , who works as a mascot and joker on the ship, is Ian, who had previously lost his job at his record company.
The chipmunks should stay in the cabin from now on and are only allowed to play shuffleboard in one corner on deck , which is boring for everyone. When Dave falls asleep on his lounger, Alvin takes the opportunity to hang from a kite and fly with it over the ship while the others hold the kite rope. When all six chipmunks are being carried away by the kite, Dave wakes up and tries to follow with a hang glider . But when Ian tries to stop him, both take off and shortly afterwards fall into the sea. The chipmunks are now landing on a tropical island, where Dave and Ian will later wash up.
On the island, the chipmunks meet Zoe, a woman who has lived alone on the island for many years. After Simon was bitten by a spider, he realizes that it is a phoneutria bahiensis , the neurotoxin of which leads to a personality change, as has already happened with Zoe. Simon now calls himself French and becomes a daredevil. In a cave behind a waterfall he finds the treasure that Zoe was always looking for on the island.
When a volcano erupts on the island, they manage to escape to the sea on a raft just in time. They are rescued by a helicopter and eventually perform at the International Music Awards .

Reviews
“The vocal interludes are sometimes quite shrill and high. [..] If you don't like them, you should keep your fingers - or rather your ears - away from this film. Anyone who prefers demanding, profound and rather quiet children's films is also wrong here. [..] "Alvin and the Chipmunks 3: Chip Break" is released without age restriction. Nevertheless, the film is only recommended from around the age of six. [..] The lonely and dark nights that the Chipmunks have to spend on the island could scare young children, just like the volcanic eruption. The rapid image changes and dialogues will also overwhelm kindergarten children. "
“Well, the chipmunks and their female counterparts, the chipettes, are quite cute to look at as funny pop chipmunks. However, as soon as they open their mouths to speak in their helium-high voices or, worse, sing, it becomes exhausting for almost everyone present. Only the very young target group seems to be resistant to this and not at all sensitive to pain. At least there is no other explanation for the fact that the two previous films were so successful that the third part inevitably had to come. For "Alvin and the Chipmunks 3: Chipbruch" a loose and surprise-free story structure was designed once again. "
“The Chipmunks are back and are continuing their mindless course. Apart from the perfectly integrated computer animation of the chipmunk gang, the film has very little entertainment to offer. Warning: a film that could spoil the taste of young moviegoers. "
"Amusing children's film, which in the animal-human constellation acts out classic parent-child conflicts in a comedically exaggerated way and thus even comforts the" singing skills "of its computer-animated stars that take getting used to."
