Matthew Gray Gubler
Matthew Gray Gubler (born March 9, 1980 in Las Vegas , Nevada ) is an American actor , voice actor , filmmaker , model and painter . He became known for his role as Dr. Spencer Reid in the television series Criminal Minds .
Life
Matthew Gray Gubler was born in Las Vegas to John Gubler, a lawyer and Marilyn Gubler (née Kelcher), a political advisor, where he attended the Las Vegas Academy , a high school specializing in the performing arts. He later studied at the Tisch School of the Arts in New York City , which he graduated with a master's in directing.
Even before his acting career, he was hired as a model for fashion labels such as Marc Jacobs , Tommy Hilfiger , Sisley, etc. Then he had supporting roles, e.g. B. in the films The Deep Sea Divers and The Chaos Camper . In 2009 he played in a supporting role at the side of Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the independent film (500) Days of Summer . Gubler directed various films during his studies, most of which were shot in his hometown of Las Vegas and New York City.
From 2005 to 2020 he starred in the successful US series Criminal Minds and directed several episodes there. He also speaks Simon in all four parts of Alvin and the Chipmunks .
In addition to his work in front of the camera, Gubler is also the director of numerous short films and documentaries. He also directed the music video for the single "Don't Shoot me Santa" by the rock band The Killers , who like him come from Las Vegas. He is also a successful painter. His drawings have been exhibited at the Little Bird Gallery in Los Angeles , among others .
