Zooey Claire Deschanel (born January 17, 1980 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actress and singer .

Life

Zooey Deschanel was born into a family of filmmakers. Her parents are Oscar- nominated cameraman Caleb Deschanel and actress Mary Jo Deschanel , née Weir. Her older sister Emily is also an actress.

Deschanel was named after the male protagonist Zooey Glass from JD Salinger's 1961 novel Franny and Zooey . She attended the Crossroads School for Arts and Sciences in Santa Monica , where she made friends with Kate Hudson and Jake Gyllenhaal , among others . During the summer vacation she regularly attended a performing arts summer camp in Hancock, New York . Before she became a full-time actress, she studied for half a year at Northwestern University .

Deschanel got engaged to the musician Ben Gibbard on December 28, 2008 , they married in September 2009. The two separated on Halloween 2011 by mutual agreement. At the end of the year Deschanel filed for divorce due to “irreconcilable differences” was executed by a Los Angeles court .

In January 2015 Deschanel got engaged to the producer Jacob Pechenik, whom she married in June 2015. The couple became parents to a daughter in August 2015 and a son in 2017. The couple separated in September 2019 and divorced in June 2020.

Deschanel made her debut in front of the camera in 1998 in an episode of Veronica's Closet . In 1999 she had a supporting role in the comedy Dr. Mumford by Lawrence Kasdan . That same year she also appeared in the music video She's Got Issues by The Offspring . She had her first major role in the film Almost Famous (2000) as Anita Miller .

In the independent film The Good Girl (2002) with Jennifer Aniston in the lead role, Deschanel played a bored supermarket cashier. At the Mar Del Plata Film Festival in 2003 she was named best actress in the role of Noel in the drama All the Real Girls (2003). She was also nominated for the Independent Spirit Awards 2004 for the same film .

In 2005, she played in the film adaptation The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy , the Trillian . In the love comedy seduced to undress (2006) she played Kit , the roommate of the protagonist ( Sarah Jessica Parker ). Also in 2009 Deschanel starred alongside her sister Emily in her hit series Bones . There she played the main character's cousin.

From 2011 to 2018 Deschanel played the title character Jessica "Jess" Day in the Fox - Sitcom New Girl , for which she received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Series - Comedy or Musical . Deschanel wrote and sang the theme song Hey Girl for the series.

Together with fellow actor Samantha Shelton , Deschanel forms the cabaret group If All the Stars Were Pretty Babies , which performs sporadically in and around Los Angeles. Deschanel sings songs from Buddy - The Christmas Elf , among others .

Together with the musician M. Ward , Deschanel forms the indie duet She & Him ; she plays the ukulele and the piano . The debut album was released in March 2008 under the name Volume One . Her second album Volume Two was released in March 2010. In October 2011, the Christmas album A Very She & Him Christmas was released . In May 2013, the duet released the album Volume 3 . Her album Classics was released on November 23, 2014.

Deschanel runs an entertainment website , HelloGiggles.com , with producer Sophia Rossi and writer Molly McAleer , to which she also contributes her own songs.

In March 2014 published Deschanel with the US musician Prince to download - Single Fallinlove2nite .
