Buddy - The Christmas Elf (Original title: Elf ) is an American comedy film directed by Jon Favreau from 2003 .
action
At the beginning of the film, Papa Elf explains which three professions the elves are allowed to exercise: making shoes, baking cakes, helping Santa Claus . This begins the story of Buddy, a human who grew up among the elves at the North Pole.
A baby is mistakenly taken to the North Pole by Santa Claus when he returns there after Christmas. It is taken in by the elves who work for Santa Claus and grows up under the care of the childless Papa Elf, who gives the child the name Buddy , as this name is on his diaper. The adult Buddy is much bigger than any other elf, and at work it quickly becomes clear that Buddy doesn't quite belong to them. Papa Elf Buddy reveals that he has been adopted and that his real father lives in New York.
Buddy then decides to leave for the unknown city, where he quickly finds his birth father. It is Walter Hobbes, a rather heartless and unscrupulous publisher of children's books, who first mistakes Buddy for a singing telegram in costume and then for a madman and has him thrown out of his office.
For now, Buddy slips into a department store, in whose Christmas decorations he feels almost as at home as at the North Pole. He falls in love with Jovie, who works there as a costumed Christmas elf. However, Buddy immediately exposes Santa Claus, who is employed by the department store, as a fraud. Buddy unleashes a tumult in the department store and ends up in jail. From there, however, Walter frees him, who reluctantly accepts the paternity established by a DNA test and lets Buddy live with him.
So Buddy comes to a friendly, but slightly irritated stepmother and a little suspicious half-brother. But until they become a real family and Buddy and Jovie become a couple, buddy's fairytale-naive North Pole world and the all-too human New York City often and violently collide.
But by joining forces, they can finally help the real Santa Claus out of a tight spot when his sledge breaks down in the middle of New York due to lack of fuel: Only the exuberant and widespread joy of Christmas will make him fly again.
