George Robert "Bob" Newhart (born September 5, 1929 in Oak Park , Illinois ) is an American actor and stand-up comedian .

Life

Newhart started his career in 1959 as a text writer and stand-up comedian in clubs. His first comedy album The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart was released in 1961 and won two Grammy Awards .

Newhart had several sitcoms of his own on US television . The Bob Newhart Show (142 episodes) ran on NBC from 1972 to 1978 . 1982 to 1990 CBS produced Newhart with 184 episodes. He has also been a guest star on other shows, including 24 appearances on the Dean Martin Show . From 1960 Newhart also worked as an actor in feature films and television series.

In English-speaking countries, Newhart is also known as the voice of the mouse Bernard in the Disney cartoons Bernard and Bianca - Die Mäusepolizei (1977) and Bernard and Bianca in Kangaroo Land (1990).

In 1993, Bob Newhart was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences . He has a guest appearance in the Simpsons episode Bart is to blame for everything , and he also embodies the character "Professor Proton" aka Arthur Jeffries in six episodes of The Big Bang Theory . He also has this role in Young Sheldon .
