Mark Twain Prize
The Mark Twain Prize has been awarded annually by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts since 1998 for American humor . Named after the writer Mark Twain , the award is America's premier humorous award.
The award ceremony in 2007, on the 10th anniversary of the award, took place for the first time in the opera house of the Kennedy Center. Presenters included Bob Costas , Robert De Niro , Danny DeVito , Jimmy Fallon , Whoopi Goldberg , John Goodman , David Letterman , Jon Lovitz , Rob Reiner , Paul Shaffer , Martin Short , Joe Torre , Barbara Walters, and Robin Williams .
Bill Cosby didn't accept the award until 2009, having previously turned down his nomination twice. In May 2018, the Kennedy Center revoked the award for Cosby amid allegations of sexual abuse against him.
