Carol Creighton Burnett (born April 26, 1933 in San Antonio , Texas ) is an American actress and multiple Emmy and Golden Globe award winner.

Life and accomplishments

Carol Burnett graduated from UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television without a regular degree. In the early 1950s she made her debut on the television show The Paul Winchell and Jerry Mahoney Show . From 1956 to 1957 she played the role of Celia in the television series Stanley . In 1960, she hosted her own The Carol Burnett Show . In the comedy film Who slept in my bed? played Burnett in 1963 on the side of Dean Martin and Elizabeth Montgomery . From 1967 to 1978 she again hosted The Carol Burnett Show . Previously, she starred alongside leading actress Lucille Ball in Oops Lucy! in four episodes her comedic talent to an audience of millions.

In 1979 Burnett starred in the television drama To Die fürs Vaterland, alongside Ned Beatty . In 1981 she starred alongside Alan Alda in the hit comedy Four Seasons . The film was one of the ten most successful productions in US cinema that year. Burnett received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance. In 1983 she played one of the two leading roles alongside Elizabeth Taylor in the television drama Girlfriends for Life . From 1996 to 1999 she appeared on the television series Crazy About You . In 1998 she played the leading female role alongside Walter Matthau in the television comedy Papa's second spring .

Private

Burnett married actor Don Saroyan in 1955 and divorced in 1962, represented by attorney Harry E. Claiborne . In 1963 she married producer Joe Hamilton , who produced The Carol Burnett Show , among other things . She has three children with him; the marriage was divorced in 1984. In 2001 she married the composer Brian Miller.

Burnett's eldest daughter, Carrie Hamilton, died on January 20, 2002 of complications from lung cancer and a brain tumor. She was 38 years old. Burnett had in Carrie's youth, after she had become a drug addict as a teenager, publicly expressed himself increasingly on the addiction problem of adolescents. She coined the sentence: "You have to love your children enough to bear that they temporarily hate you."

Carol Burnett is the godmother of actress Emma Walton , daughter of her friend Julie Andrews .
