Tina Fey [ feɪ ] (born May 18, 1970 in Upper Darby , Pennsylvania ; actually Elizabeth Stamatina Fey ) is an American writer , comedian and actress and, among other things, Golden Globe and multiple Emmy awardees.

life and career

After high school, Fey studied drama at the University of Virginia and graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in drama . She then moved to Chicago , where she worked at the YMCA and took evening classes with the theater group The Second City . She was a member of their ensemble from 1994.

From 1997 to 2006 she was a member of the writing staff of the NBC telecast Saturday Night Live (SNL) in 1999 as the first female head writer. During this time she won a Writers Guild of America Award (2001) and an Emmy (2002). In addition, she worked as a screenwriter and actress in the movie Girls Club - Beware of the biting! With.

In 2006 Fey developed the concept of the comedy series 30 Rock for NBC , in which she herself played the lead role. The series, based on Fey's experience as a writer for SNL, premiered on October 11, 2006. By the end of the series in 2013, 138 episodes had been produced in seven seasons. For her role as Liz Lemon , Fey received an Emmy nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series in 2007 , followed by an award in 2008 . In addition, she received the Emmy for Best Screenplay for a Comedy Series that same evening .

Fey made international headlines with her parody of Sarah Palin during the 2008 presidential election in the United States .

In 2009, Fey won a Golden Globe for best actress in the comedy series 30 Rock . In September 2009 she received the Emmy at the Creative Arts Primetime Emmys for her guest appearance on the comedy series Saturday Night Live on the US TV channel NBC. In 2009, 2010 and 2013 she won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress in a TV Series - Comedy for 30 Rock . In 2010 she was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. She developed the sitcom Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt , of which Netflix ordered two seasons in 2015 and in which she also plays two small roles herself.

In April 2018, the musical Mean Girls, which she wrote, premiered on Broadway. It is based on the 2004 film of the same name (German: Girls Club - Caution Biting! ) And was nominated for 12 Emmys.

In 2016 an asteroid was named after Fey: (336694) Fey .

Fey since 2001 with the SNL - composer Richmond Jeff married. They have two daughters (* 2005 and * 2011). She lives in New York City in the Upper West Side neighborhood .
