Jack Menken is interviewed; he tells of events that focused on his friend Tom Dobbs.
Tom Dobbs is a presenter on a television show. When he complains about the politicians, a woman in the audience asks him why he is not running himself. Dobbs is running for president of the United States .
The computer expert Eleanor Green, who works for “Delacroy”, the manufacturer of the voting machines, discovers a bug in the system, but is ignored by her boss. On election day, she is threatened and ordered to keep silence.
Dobbs wins the election, Green is fired. She turns to Dobbs, who wants to make the affair public. However, Delacroy gets wind of the matter, claiming that Green was responsible for the rigged electoral system. Dobbs resigns from office. The democratic candidate Kellogg wins the repeated election. Dobbs hires Green to produce his show.
Reviews
Robert Wilonsky criticized in the Village Voice of October 10, 2006 that the film was "confusing" ("distracted") and getting lost in the "mess" of conspiracy theories. Laura Linney is miscast.
Bill Zwecker praised the actors in the Chicago Sun-Times on October 13, 2006, especially Robin Williams and Christopher Walken .
The lexicon of international films wrote: "Top-class cast, covertly staged political satire that targets political customs in the USA and its presidents."
