Dick Pope

Richard "Dick" C. Pope (* summer 1947 in Bromley ) is a British cameraman . In 2007 and 2015, he received an Oscar nomination for his work on The Illusionist and Mr. Turner - Master of Light .

Life

Born in the third quarter of 1947, Pope has worked as a cameraman in more than 50 films since the early 1980s. One of his first films was the film adaptation of George Orwell's 1984 . He was nominated for a BAFTA Award in 1988 for his work on the TV series Porterhouse Blue . In 1990 Pope won the prize for the best camera in the film Scream in Silence at the Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya .

A long-term collaboration between Pope and British director Mike Leigh began in 1991 with Das Leben istweet , for whom he appeared in numerous films such as B. Naked , Topsy-Turvy - turned upside down or Happy-Go-Lucky took over the camera work. For Leigh's films Lies and Secrets and Vera Drake , Pope won a Golden Frog at Camerimage , a Polish film festival especially for cinematographers, in 1996 and 2004 respectively . In 1999 Leigh and Pope even won a special award at this festival for the best collaboration between director and cameraman. As early as 1995 Pope was nominated for a Golden Frog with the film Limitless Hate .

In 2006, Pope worked for director Neil Burger on the film The Illusionist . For this he was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Cinematography at the 2007 Academy Awards. He has also won awards at the Camerimage Festival, the San Diego Film Critics Society Awards, and was nominated for the American Society of Cinematographers Awards .
