action
Early 1950s in Great Britain : housewife Vera Drake devotedly cares for her sick mother and her two children. She is also happy to help with problems in the neighborhood. While her husband runs a car repair shop with his brother, Vera earns a little extra money with various cleaning jobs. However, it also has a secret. If necessary, she performs abortions for free .
Although she becomes routine over time, complications arise one day and one of her patients almost dies as a result of the abortion. It doesn't take long before the police arrive at Vera's family's door.
Vera was and is evidently not aware of any guilt and protests that she only wanted to help the girls . The police interrogations make her an intimidated and broken woman. The arrest and ultimately their conviction are not without consequences for their families.
