Ruth Sheen

Ruth Sheen (* 1952 in Stepney near London , England ) is a British actress .

Life

Sheen was trained at the East 15 Acting School in the UK . It wasn't until 1988 that her career as a film and television actress began. She made her film debut in 1988 in a small role alongside Alec Guinness in the Charles Dickens film adaptation of Little Dorrit . In the same year, she played the female lead in the comedy film High Expectations by director Mike Leigh . For her portrayal of Shirley , she was awarded the European Film Prize in 1989 for Best Actress .

Afterwards she mainly worked in British television productions. From 1995 to 1998 she played the role of Nurse Carr in the television series Bramwell and in 1998 she appeared in six episodes of the Bramwell series as Nanny Simmons . Between 1989 and 2004 she played various episode roles in six episodes of The Bill series . Since her first collaboration with director Mike Leigh in 1988, she has appeared frequently in his feature films, including Lies and Secrets , Vera Drake and the Oscar- nominated drama Another year . In addition to film and television roles, Sheen also plays in the theater. Among other things, she was seen alongside Ben Whishaw in the premiere of Philip Ridley's Leaves of Glass at the Soho Theater in London in May 2007 .
