action

May 8, 1945: The world celebrates the victory over Hitler's Germany . The two princesses Elizabeth and Margaret receive permission from their father, King George VI. to attend the end-of-war celebrations in London. He would like Elisabeth to provide an authentic report on the mood of the people and the opinions of the people about his midnight address on the radio.

The princesses should be back at Buckingham Palace at one o'clock. In addition, two officers are assigned to accompany them.

Margaret, who is soon bored of her company, manages to escape the guardians. Elisabeth follows her younger sister. Since the sisters get on different buses in the hustle and bustle, they are separated from each other. Accompanied by a naval officer, Margaret enters a world of nightclubs, gambling and alcohol. Meanwhile, while searching for Margaret, Elisabeth meets a pilot who has deserted and with whom she has her own adventures.

Contrary to the agreements with their parents, the sisters do not return to Buckingham Palace until the early hours of the morning.
