Belvoir Castle [ ˈbiːvə ˈkɑːsl ] is a castle in the county of Leicestershire in central England in the Vale of Belvoir . The listed castle is owned by David Manners, 11th Duke of Rutland .

The castle is open to visitors. The rooms house important works of art, including five pictures from the first series of the Seven Sacraments by Nicolas Poussin (a sixth was destroyed in the castle fire in 1816).

On 100 days of the year, for a fee, visitors can hunt pheasants and partridges , which are driven to their guns by drivers .

Film set

Belvoir Castle

The castle became known, among other things, as a film set . In the 1980 film The Little Lord with Ricky Schroder and Alec Guinness , the building was the castle of the Dorincourt family. In the film The Da Vinci Code , Belvoir Castle was the summer residence of Pope Castel Gandolfo and the castle became the castle for The Haunted Castle also used as a backdrop.

The castle was also used as a film set in the Netflix series " The Crown ".
