Julian Jarrold (* 15. May 1960 in Norwich , Norfolk as Julian Edward Peter Jarrold ) is a British film director and film producer , the number of major British films staged, including Kinky Boots - Man (n) wearing boots , Becoming Jane and Brideshead Head .

life and career

Jarrold was born in 1960 in Norwich, the son of the President of the John Jarrold Printing Museum. He attended Gresham School in Norfolk before he became drawn to film.

He took on his first directorial duties for television episodes of the British series Dramarama (1983), The Other Side of Midnight (1 episode, 1989), Children's Ward (10 episodes, 1990–1991), Coronation Street (1 episode, 1992), Crime Story ( 1 episode, 1992), Medics (2 episodes, 1994 ), Just in Case Fitz (3 episodes, 1994), Silent Witness (2 episodes, 1997), or Touching Evil (1 episode, 1997), before moving on to 1997 the staging of television and cinema films.

In 1999 he directed the television adaptations of All the King's Men with Maggie Smith and the miniseries Great Expectations with Charlotte Rampling .

For the comedy Kinky Boots - Man (n) wears boots with Chiwetel Ejiofor he received a nomination for the British Independent Film Award 2005 .

In 2007, he shot the fictional portrait of the writer Jane Austen in the literary adaptation of Beloved Jane with Anne Hathaway , James McAvoy and James Cromwell . In 2008 he directed the cast of Matthew Goode , Hayley Atwell , Ben Whishaw , Emma Thompson and Michael Gambon, the film Reunion with Brideshead based on the novel by Evelyn Waugh . In 2009 the mystery thriller Yorkshire Killer joined. In 2015, the drama A Royal Night starring Sarah Gadon , Rupert Everett and Emily Watson hit theaters.

On many of his film productions, Jarrold worked with the British composer Adrian Johnston .

Julian Jarrold is a member of the family that founded the Norwich Jarrolds in 1823. He now lives in North London .
