Jeff Pope (* 20th century ) is a British television producer and screenwriter . He co-wrote the feature films Pierrepoint (2005), The Fattest Man in Britain (2009) and See No Evil: The Moors Murders (2006) as well as the Oscar- nominated Philomena (2013). He is also director of drama in the feature films division of Independent Television .

Life

Jeff Pope started as a journalist for the Ealing Gazette in 1980 . After three years there, he moved to the Six O'Clock Show on London Weekend Television , a regional magazine. From there he switched to Crime Monthly , a 15-minute program on real crime. In the late 1980s he moved to the drama division of British broadcaster ITV, his first production being Fool's Gold: The Story of the Brink's-Mat Robbery (1992). He specialized in real life and has a penchant for the British gangster style. In addition to his job as a screenwriter, he also produced numerous works.

His biggest challenge was the biopic Mo about the British politician Mo Mowlam . The film was rejected by the broadcaster and threatened to fail for lack of money until Channel 4 stepped in. For See No Evil: The Moors Murders , Pope and his co-producers received the British Academy Film Award . This was repeated in 2014 with Philomena . For this film he was also nominated as a screenwriter for the best adapted screenplay together with co-writer Steve Coogan .
