Mo Mowlam

Marjorie "Mo" Mowlam [ mɑːdʒəɹɪ məʊ məʊləm ] (* 18th September 1949 in Watford , † 19th August 2005 in Canterbury ) was a British politician of the Labor Party and British Northern Ireland Secretary.

Life

From 1987 to 2001 she held the parliamentary seat for Redcar (North Yorkshire). From 1997 to 1999 Mowlam was Northern Ireland Minister in Tony Blair's first cabinet and negotiator in the talks that led to the Good Friday Agreement (1998). In 1999 she was replaced in this capacity by Peter Mandelson and no longer stood for a seat in parliament in the 2001 elections. Mowlam has had a brain tumor since the late 1990s .

In August 2005 she was admitted to London's King's College Hospital , seriously ill , and shortly thereafter transferred to a hospital in Kent to be closer to her family. According to the doctors, she refused artificial life support measures if there was no prospect of recovery. She died on August 19, 2005.
