Gavin strand
Gavin Strang (born July 10, 1943 in Crieff , Perth and Kinross , Scotland ) is a former British Labor Party politician who was a member of the House of Commons for forty years and was Minister of State for Transport between 1997 and 1998.
Life
After visiting the Morrison's Academy graduated strand a degree in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Edinburgh and at Churchill College of the University of Cambridge and at the end was studying in 1966 first act, before he then worked as an economic adviser from 1968 to 1970 as an agronomist.
Subsequently he was elected for the first time as a member of the House of Commons in the general election of June 18, 1970 and represented the constituency of Edinburgh East there until May 1, 1997 . After the Labor Party won the general election in February 1974 , he was first Parliamentary Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Energy and then from 1976 to 1979 in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
After his party's defeat against the Conservative Party in the 1979 general election , he became spokesman for the opposition Labor faction on agriculture in the lower house and held this position until 1982. He was later opposition spokesman for agriculture, food and rural affairs from 1992 to 1997.
After being in the general election from 1 May 1997 now for the constituency of Edinburgh East and Musselburgh was again elected as a member of the House of Commons, appointed him Prime Minister Tony Blair to the Minister of Transport ( Minister of Transport ) in its first cabinet. In July 1998 he was replaced in this position by the previous Minister of State for the Armed Forces, John Reid .
Most recently, after the general election of May 5, 2005, to the general election of May 6, 2010 , strand was again a member of the House of Commons for the constituency of Edinburgh East .
