Nick Brown (politician)
Nicholas Hugh "Nick" Brown (* 13. June 1950 in Hawkhurst , Kent ) is a British politician of the Labor Party .
Life
Brown was born in Hawkhurst , Kent , in 1950 . After finishing school, he studied at the University of Manchester . After completing his studies, he worked in the advertising department of the US company Procter & Gamble . In 1978 he switched to the GMB trade union .
When the British politician Mike Thomas , who was a member of the House of Commons for the Newcastle upon Tyne East constituency , moved to the SDP in 1978 , Brown was elected as the new Labor Party representative for the Newcastle upon Tyne East constituency seat. In the general election in 1983 he defended his mandate. He was re-elected in the following parliamentary elections.
From July 27, 1998 to June 11, 2001, Brown was the British Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries and then from June 2001 to July 2003 Secretary of Labor. He succeeded Jack Cunningham in 1998 as Minister of Agriculture and was replaced in 2001 by the British politician Margaret Beckett . Since 2008, Brown has been British Secretary of State in the Treasury.
Brown is openly gay .
