Alan Johnson (politician)
Alan Arthur Johnson (born May 17, 1950 in London ) is a British Labor Party politician and was Home Secretary in the government of Gordon Brown from June 2009 to May 2010 . Johnson became Secretary of Education in 2003 and Secretary of Health from 2007 to 2009. In October 2010 he was accepted into the Labor Party's shadow cabinet by Ed Miliband as a candidate for the office of Chancellor of the Exchequer.
From 1997 he was a member of the British House of Commons for the constituency of Hull West . In 2004 he became the first former union chairman since Frank Cousins in 1964 to join the cabinet.
In the 2017 general election , Johnson decided not to run again.
Johnson was awarded the Orwell Prize in 2014 for his childhood memories, This Boy: A Memoir of a Childhood .
Johnson took part in the first season of the British version of The Masked Singer as Pharaoh in January 2020 , in which he was eliminated as the second candidate.
