Alan Milburn (* 27. January 1958 in Birmingham ) is a British politician of the Labor Party .

Life

Milburn graduated from Lancaster University after school .

In the elections of 9 April 1992 he was for the Labor Party for the first time in the lower house ( House of Commons ) selected and represented there until the elections of 6 May 2010 the constituency Darlington .

After the Labor Party's victory in the general election of May 1, 1997 , he was first Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and then from December 1998 to October 1999 Chief Secretary to the Chancellor ( Chief Secretary to the Treasury ). After another cabinet reshuffle, he became Minister of Health in the government of Prime Minister Tony Blair on October 11, 1999, and held this post until his replacement by John Reid on June 13, 2003.

Most recently, he was the successor to Douglas Alexander from September 8, 2004 until the general election on May 5, 2005 Minister in the Cabinet Office and at the same time Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster . In March 2015, Milburn succeeded Chris Bonington as Chancellor at Lancaster University , his alma mater .
