Stephen Paul "Steve" Barclay (born May 3, 1972 in Lytham St Annes , County Lancashire ) is a British Conservative Party politician and was Minister for Leaving the European Union from November 2018 until the Ministry was dissolved on January 31, 2020 .

He has been Chief Secretary of the Treasury in the Boris Johnson II cabinet since February 13, 2020 .

Life

Barclay is the third son of a unionist and a civil servant. He attended the private King Edward VII School at Lytham St Annes and studied at the Universities of Cambridge and Chester .

Political career

Since May 2010 he has been a member of the House of Commons for the constituency of North East Cambridgeshire . Between July 2016 and January 2018 he held various positions in the Ministry of Finance and was then State Secretary at the Ministry of Health until November 2018 . Since then, he has been responsible for all aspects of the Kingdom's exit from the EU as "Minister for Leaving the European Union" .

Private

Barclay is married and has three children.
