Damian Patrick George Hinds (* 27. November 1969 ) is a British politician of the Conservative Party . He was Minister of Education in Theresa May's second cabinet from 2018 to 2019 .

Life

Damian Hinds graduated from St. Ambrose College , a Roman Catholic school in Altrincham . He then studied philosophy, politics and economics at the University of Oxford .

Before starting his political career, he worked in the hotel, brewery and pub sector for 18 years. He is married and has three children.

Hinds ran in the British general election in 2005 in the constituency of Stretford and Urmston and reached with 30.4% of the vote in second place behind Beverley Hughes . In the 2010 election , Hinds was elected MP for East Hampshire with 56.8% of the vote. In the 2015 and 2017 elections , Hinds was again able to prevail in this constituency.

In 2016 he became State Secretary for Employment and Pensions. In January 2018 he was appointed Minister of Education to succeed Justine Greening . He resigned from office on July 24, 2019 with the formation of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's government .
