The May I Cabinet formed the government of the United Kingdom from July 13, 2016 . It was headed by Prime Minister Theresa May as the successor to David Cameron , who resigned after the Brexit referendum . May previously served as Home Secretary in the Cameron I and Cameron II Cabinets from 2010 to 2016 . After the Conservative Party, which had previously had the majority, narrowly missed it in the early general election in May 2017 , a minority government supported by the Northern Irish DUP , the May II Cabinet , came into being on June 11, 2017 .
Cabinet members
On the evening of May's inauguration on July 13, 2016, the first details about the composition of her cabinet became known. With regard to their position ahead of the referendum on June 23, 2016 , both former EU membership supporters and supporters of leaving the EU are represented in the new cabinet. The most prominent Brexiteers in the cabinet are Boris Johnson , David Davis , Liam Fox , Andrea Leadsom and Chris Grayling , some of whom hold key positions in the new cabinet.
Some ministers from the former Cameron II cabinet were not accepted by May into her cabinet. These included Justice Minister Michael Gove , Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne , Secretary of State for Education and Women's Rights Nicky Morgan and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Oliver Letwin . Others resigned, such as Anna Soubry (Minister of State for Small Enterprises and Industry), Ros Altmann (Minister of State for Pensions), or turned down the new positions offered to them, such as Theresa Villiers .

EU Parliament President Martin Schulz said that the new Prime Minister was apparently more concerned with overcoming the split in her Conservative Party than with the national interests of Great Britain when awarding the ministerial posts . The country must break this dangerous vicious circle, which has a direct impact on the rest of Europe.
In addition to Boris Johnson, four other cabinet members will play a leading role in the Brexit negotiations. The five disagree on many points.
- David Davis wants to limit immigration to 100,000 people per year and introduce a points system based on Australia.
- Amber Rudd was against Brexit; As Minister of the Interior, she has to enforce adopted immigration restrictions.
- Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond was against Brexit; his guiding principle is the free exchange of goods and services.
- Trade Secretary Liam Fox said Britain could do very well without membership of the single market . He wants to complete the exit negotiations by the end of 2018.
