Alan Duncan
Sir Alan Duncan KCMG (* 31 March 1957 ) is a British politician of the Conservative Party .
Life
Duncan was born in 1957 in Rickmannsworth , Hertfordshire . His father served in the Royal Air Force and his mother was a teacher. The family moved many times due to Duncan's father's job at NATO , including Gibraltar , Italy and Norway . After leaving school, Duncan studied at St John's College and Harvard University in Oxford . Duncan then worked in the oil industry at Royal Dutch Shell from 1979 to 1981 , and in 1982 moved to the commodities trader Marc Rich , for whom he worked until 1988. In the British general election in 1992 , Duncan was first elected as a Member of Parliament for the constituency of Rutland and Melton in the British House of Commons . In the following general election, Duncan was re-elected as a member of parliament.
Duncan has been a member of conservative shadow cabinets in various functions since 1998 . After the conservative election victory in May 2010 , he was appointed by the newly elected Prime Minister David Cameron as Secretary of State in the Ministry of International Development; In the course of a cabinet reshuffle, he was dismissed from this office in July 2014. From July 2016, he was again State Secretary under Prime Minister Theresa May , this time in the Foreign Ministry and with responsibility for Europe and America. In anticipation of Boris Johnson's move to the post of prime minister two days later , Duncan resigned on July 22, 2019.
In 2002, Duncan had his public coming out in politics. He lives with his partner James Dunseath, whom he married on July 24, 2008.
